Blue Jays - 020 053 100 - 11 17 0We actually had a brief lead in this one, thanks to the first of Victor Martinez's two home runs. But to no one's surprise, Lackey (4.1-8-7-2-3, 83) gave it back, immediately -- and then some.
Red Sox - 200 003 022 - 9 12 1
Boston trailed 10-2 in the sixth, but clawed back and had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. It was Martinez, who had driven in the Sox's third run with a groundout in the sixth, then belted another two-run dong in the eighth. He came up empty this time, however, ending the game with a pop-up to shortstop.
The Yankees rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth and beat the Orioles 4-3, while the Angels broke a tie with a run in the top of their ninth and beat the Rays 4-3.
Boston lost a half-game in both standings, and are 7 GB in the East and 6.5 GB in the WC. 15 games to go.Brett Cecil / John Lackey
Boston is 11-4 against Toronto this season. Two of those four losses were in games started by Lackey, who has allowed 24 hits and 10 walks in 18.2 innings (three starts, 7.71 ERA) to the Blue Jays this year.Scutaro, 2B

Don Zimmer, near the same area of earth that he was thrown down onto by Pedro Martinez, is being announced as a Red Sox Hall of Famer.
ReplyDeleteI am disgusted by this news.
ReplyDeleteThough I knew about it in May, when Gerbil said it was a "total surprise" to him.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck has he done to deserve this?
Castig and DO were emceeing the ceremony and it was like they struggled to find things of real hall-of-fame importance for the Gerbil.
ReplyDeleteOh don't fucking start like this, Lackey.
ReplyDeleteIn case no one remembers...I hate Lackey!!
ReplyDeleteVMart!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCLEAN UP ON AISLE 1!!!
ReplyDeleteNEWS FLASH...NEWS FLASH...NEWS FLASH...NEWS FLASH

ReplyDelete"a few close calls with the home ump that could have gone either way, some hits that found holes or blooped in -- i pitched pretty well in that second inning. some of my best stuff of the year, i think."

ReplyDeleteFor some reason (I forget why), my husband does not dislike him. Oh yeah, he says he works hard. I was in the kitchen during the first inning and he asked, "Are you mumbling about Lackey again?" Yes, I was.

Hating John Lackey is a newsflash? I should quote something Ish said about rainbow sherbert.
ReplyDeleteA, are you watching on mute or Sox radio or what? I'm trying to deal with the Jays announcers, but it's a losing battle.
ReplyDeleteL, the news flash was sarcastic. Lackey is really the only player I voice my dislike for on this forum. I just do it over and over and over.
ReplyDeleteI knew it was sarcastic. Just adding my .02.

ReplyDeleteYet, still I watch.

ReplyDeletei should be able to hear the fenway boos way up here. why are they not booing loud enough?
ReplyDeletewhat the fucking fuck?
ReplyDeleteUgh.
ReplyDeleteThis is not funny.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they change Lackey for Hill earlier?
ReplyDeleteI took a break and it's 10-2? WTF happened?
ReplyDeleteNever mind, I just checked gameday. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they change Lackey for Hill earlier?
ReplyDeleteLike in May?
Is this a comeback?
ReplyDeleteWelp... This sucks.
ReplyDeleteWait what the hell? I totally missed five runs scoring. Did someone just hit a five-run dong?
ReplyDeletethanks a lot, mike lowell's corpse.

ReplyDeleteNAVA -- RUN(S)!!!
ReplyDeleteit's victor time!
My sister was at this game with a bunch of people but they left early. I just texted her saying the tying run is at the plate and she said, "WHAT???"
ReplyDeletei want her and her friends to be kicking themselves for weeks that they missed this one.
ReplyDelete3rd dong - come on - how hard can that be?
ReplyDeleteThat's what she said.
ReplyDelete***
Deflating P6.
Missed it by THAT MUCH.
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree, but they really wouldn't have cared so much. They were going just to go. Just something to do.
What an annoying almost comeback.
ReplyDeleteLacky should have been at temple tonight - attoning.
ReplyDeleteOr he could just call Steven Colbert's ATTON-A-PHONE!
(Google it, I still haven't gotten around to learning this link stuff)
That was close. The second stringers almost did it!
ReplyDeleteI was wondering why it took Cito so long to bring in the "closer". Usually he does it by his book: with-in 3 runs, or the runners on that would make it a three run game.
I thought the pop to shallow CF was going to drop - nice play by the kid, good looking athlete. Escobar and McDonald looked great up the middle on several plays, great footwork by both and they read each other well.
The second I saw Zimmer my mind went to the efficient Jujitsu move Pedro put on the raging pig.
Great stuff.

OK, here's the link.

I just haven't figured out how t do the cool "make it a link with my own title" thing. I'm pretty sure Allan or somebody explained it to Amy a while back, I just didn't commit it to memory.
Oh and....Don Zimmer has done SQUAT to deserve being in the RS HOF! I mean, he was an integral part of a very interesting and memorable moment in recent Red Sox history, but I'm not sure one moment entitles you to a spot in the HOF. And if it does, (see Dave Rberts!) I still don't think being shoved down on the ground by a HOF'er makes you one yourself.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'
um, what?
ReplyDelete"Burnett pitched the game with a black eye, and his right cheek was swollen. Girardi would not comment on how Burnett sustained the injury — “The story is he pitched well tonight, and that’s all we’re concerned about,” he said — and Burnett also refused to provide an explanation."
Is it possible for the Sox to somehow unload Lackey in the offseason? He has been worse than bad. And we thought DiceK was bad. $82.5m - This is not one of Theo's better moves. Sorry for stating the obvious.
ReplyDeleteWho the hell would want him at $15+ after this year, which right now is the worst of his career, ERA+-wise?
ReplyDelete
