Orioles - 100 100 200 - 4 8 0Dice (6.1-6-4-5-4, 109) allowed a walk and a double to start the seventh inning. Daniel Bard, who had not pitched in a game since last Tuesday in Seattle, allowed a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to give the Orioles their two-run cushion.
Red Sox - 100 001 000 - 2 5 1
Down by two, Boston did nothing in the last three innings. They went down in order in the seventh, a leadoff single in the eighth was immediately erased by a double play, and they went in order in the ninth. And so the Red Sox's playoff odds, which were 1.54% at the start of the day, took another hit.
The Yankees beat the Rays 8-6, to increase their division lead to 1.5 games. Boston is 6.5 GB Tampa Bay in the WC with 12 games to play.Brian Matusz / Daisuke Matsuzaka

1919 - It's Babe Ruth Day at Fenway Park and the Colossus ties the single-season home run record when he hits #27. No one in the crowd knows it, but this is also the last game Ruth will play for the Red Sox in Boston.
1927 - Ruth hits his 60th home run of the season, breaking the record (59) he set in 1921, which broke the record (54) he set in 1920, which broke the record (29) he set in 1919. Bizzare injury alert; "Cubs Rookie outfielder Tyler Colvin, who was impaled by a broken bat in his chest on Sunday, was in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami on Monday and was expected to stay there a few more days for observation."
ReplyDeletecurses to Buck Showalter for inspiring the lowely Orioles and causing so much difficulty for the Sox this year The Red Sox are 8-7 against the Orioles. The Yankees (13-5), Blue Jays (12-3) and Rays (10-5) all have pretty much owned the O's...
ReplyDeleteSo I turn on the TV and see DiceK in a fix in the first inning against the Orioles. Sigh. We are already behind. Against the ORIOLES.
ReplyDeleteI have not seen baseball since last week some time. Holidays and family obligations. And now we have only 13 games to go....
ReplyDeleteCall that a partial error lol
ReplyDeletetied.
ReplyDeleteis bogar coaching third for the orioles now!!!
ReplyDeletedon says a AAA mgr who he did not name let him fill out the lineup for the team for 2 games. i think don gave enough info for us to figure it out. will have to hear it again. the second game ended in a 10-0 loss.
ReplyDeletedon talked to the mgr a lot about it. it must be a team he called games for.
ReplyDeleteBBI beltre to deal with lowell's corpse.

ReplyDeleteHey all. Only here for a short time. I would like to win this game. I can't believe we have lost so many to the O's this year. Yuk.
ReplyDeleteHere is video of the Cubs player.
And now we know why Youk isn't playing, he is the trainer for the Cubs.
I feel like Matusz is becoming the Scott Kazmir of the Orioles. The lefty on the crappy AL East team that always owns us.
ReplyDeleteNot always.
ReplyDeleteweak.

FKR - 000 004
ReplyDeleteMFY - 002 02
bard came into a tie game, so this does not count as a blown save.
ReplyDeleteWhen is the last time Bard pitched? Looking rusty. That could be the ballgame there. 5 walks by DiceK, that will never win a ballgame.
ReplyDeletebard last pitched on the 14th
ReplyDeletedice starts with 5+ BB (before tonight) and red sox record:
ReplyDelete2010: 2 - 0-2
2009: 1 - 0-1
2008: 8 - 7-1
2007: 4 - 2-2
when dice walks 5 or more, boston is 9-6.
narva?
ReplyDeletei was curious about all 5+ BB games so i checked bref.
ReplyDeletethere have been 242 games (thru last night) this season in which a starter walked 5 or more.
that pitcher's team won 93 and lost 149.
10th game for victor with 3 hits
ReplyDeleterally time, pls
No rally. Bah.
ReplyDeleteIt appears we have officially reached the point of "playing out the season". Maybe not technically, or mathmatically, but it's pretty much official. I really hate this because it seems to be in September and October that I finally get to a point where I can watch more of the games. Or maybe I'm just more inclined to work my schedule around the games then. Either way, it's going to suck not having Red Sox games to follow in October.
ReplyDeleteYou try to have some crazy optimism, but these fuckers keep losing games....
