W-L Contest, Playoffs, Upcoming Stuff

Lord Lynch's W-L prediction was the worst of the 32 entries, but he came out on top.

Looking at the not-needed tie-breakers, LL may have underestimated the team's runs scored by 98, but he was only two runs short of the run differential of +74.
Example
Wednesday, October 6
ALDS: Rangers at Rays (1:30)
Yankees at Twins (8:30)

NLDS: Reds at Phillies (5:00)
Thursday, October 7
NLDS: Atlanta at Giants (9:30)
Example
I hope to post a couple of book reviews soon, including The Red Sox and Philosophy: Green Monster Meditations, which is part of Open Court's "Popular Culture and Philosophy" series.

A few days ago, I mentioned the idea of having a "live" game thread of the 2004 ALCS comeback during the winter and a few people liked the idea. If you have the DVDs, would you be interested in such a thing? And if you do not have the DVDs, why not?

  1. Wow. So the season is over and I've missed the last 4 or 5 games entirely. It feels kinda wierd not having been around here but there is a valid reason....
Maybe a game thread Wednesday to root for a little schadenfreude?
Not sure who to pull for in the Giants/Braves series, but I'm in their corner the rest of the way after, whichever it is.
Congrats Lord L on not "betting with your heart" which is undoubtedly what a lot of us were doing. Although, in defense of us 96-100 wins guys, a few less injuries could have easily added another 8-10 wins.
And put me down for the '04 remix, with the overdub bonus of having the JoS crew on hand. Woo!
Lastly, in the other, maybe even big, news dept. - my lack of participation this past week has not been due to any loss of interest after the Sox were officially eliminated. Rather, it has been due to (drum roll plz) the fact that the thunderbolt that hit me last Tuesday, whose name is Angela, has singlehandedly consumed my entire week, along with most of my capacity to think coherently. I haven't felt this alive in, well, in almost 2 years. This afternoon I looked at the time and said "Damn, the Sox are playing the Yankees in the last game of the season. It started almost an hour ago. Wonder what the score is?" She said "Hey I know you love your Red Sox. Wanna see if it's on TV?"
    I didn't.....now that's a serious crush.
I'll keep you posted during the postseason if we chat :)

This is the best news I've heard in a very, very long time.

All best to you, my friend. Rock on.

  5. Hey, Allan, great job again this year with the posts at Joy of Sox! I don't have the time to participate in game threads but your commentary on the state of the Sox is always creative and fun to read. I look forward to looking for your updates during the hot stove season.

FWIW, I sat in the stands at Fenway Saturday evening and witnessed Lowell's last game. Odd when you realize that this guy came to us as a throw-in to the Beckett trade; he leaves five years later as one of the more-respected Boston players in recent years. I can't say that he gave us five solid seasons but when he was on, he was ON.

  6. SoSock, I gotta say, fuckin' eh! Good stuff brotha, hope to hear more about this on opening day (and in the mean time too!).

Also, I like to procrastinate, hence the lack of dvds. I really need to get on that though, especially if we're doing this thread.

And I wouldn't mind some postseason game threads too, should be a good one. Glad to see some different teams in the NL, both series should be great to watch, and the AL won't be anything to snooze at either. Should be some good baseball. Go Twins/Rangers/Giants/Reds!

  7. Ish and Zen may need to fire up the ol' AltSite for threads. I can't say what I'll be watching this month.

Cool. Color me jealous. I agree, he contributed mightily at several critical times the last few years and earned my genuine respect.

Thanks to all for the warm words. I have no idea what's happening here, if anything, but we are living in a moment, and it's a very nice moment
