The Globe notes that Crawford has updated both his Twitter and Facebook pages:John Tomase, Herald:
In the last week, Epstein has proven with finality that he's no kid anymore. Just a few days shy of his 37th birthday, his youthful features have been replaced by a more hardened weariness. His hair features specks of gray. Wrinkles crease his eyes like formerly dog-eared pages. It is a stunning indictment of the Boston media's utter lack of imagination that they are still harping on Epstein's age. (Yay! he is finally a man!) Is it that hard to come up with some other angle on Epstein after almost a decade?
He is a man now. ...
And he is the most unstoppable force in baseball. ...
"My God," saluted one rival executive yesterday after the Rule 5 draft. "Theo (expletive) dominated this week."
Epstein:
Nothing that we did at these meetings -- or may have done or will do shortly -- was the product of a last-minute idea. It was all a product of -- hopefully -- a well-thought-out plan over a long period of time, and well-documented with lots of scouting, following players over the course of whole half-seasons, white papers written up about how the parts all fit together, a lot of thought and lot of commitment and belief -- and commitment to winning and belief from ownership.
In the last week, Epstein has proven with finality that he's no kid anymore.
ReplyDeleteOh for fucksake. He just proved this NOW???
meh. the worst piece of sportswriting i've seen in some time is this piece of shit from the vancouver sun about a hockey player being benched...
ReplyDelete*what actually happened*
he made two terrible plays in a game that cost his team a win. his play the entire season has been sub par and the coaching staff used the opportunity to sit him for a few games and give another rookie the chance to play in his spot. furthermore, he has been chirping some of the best players in the league which is fine, but i am a believer that if you can't back it up, then shut up.
*what the article is about*
nothing at all really. no mention of his poor play in the 2010 season at all. huge mention of the race card, which really doesn't matter at all. then stating that the league is full of conformists and boring.
i've got news for you budday - all sports leagues are like that! not every athlete is a curt schilling/jeremy roenick! interviews of athletes are 90% the same cliched thing and 95% bullshit.
"yeah i think we played hard and got some chances and uh, hopefully we'll keep it up" etc.
*end rant*
i should really get my own blog for this shit. sorry i completely hijacked your comments here, allan.
37 is pretty late for a bar mitzvah, no?
ReplyDeleteannnd downs to LAAAAAAAA, 3/15. too much.
ReplyDelete>>In the last week, Epstein has proven with finality that he's no kid anymore.
ReplyDeleteOh for fucksake. He just proved this NOW???
True confession - Theo is only two weeks older than I am. I'm starting to get a little grizzled too but I don't think I've had to prove to anyone lately that I'm no kid anymore. Hell, I haven't been carded once in the last six or seven years.
I made a half-assed attempt to find out how old Tomase is, but did not find anything.
ReplyDeleteThat 'man' stuff is ugly. How many roads does Theo have to walk down?
ReplyDelete2 World Series rings , and now he is a man.....Jesus, he is playing fantasy baseball with pretty much unlimited money, my son could have made those moves...
ReplyDeleteTim, I watched Subban (the player of whom Tim speaks, for those wondering) play tonight on Hockey Night in Canada and he had another bad night. It's not about chirping, that's for sure. Once he starts playing well he can say whatever the hell he wants.
ReplyDeleteTomase graduated from Tufts in 1995, so he's probably also 37. This is all about him; that's how journalism works.
ReplyDeleteHell, I haven't been carded once in the last six or seven years.
ReplyDeleteI take it you haven't been to Fenway recently?
If you want to be carded, come to Indiana - by law they have to card everyone for every purchase of alcohol every time. You literally see 70-year-old men being carded. i think that is what really started the Tea Party....
ReplyDeletei think that is what really started the Tea Party.
ReplyDeleteActually, the Teabaggers were started and continue to be sustained and funded by conservative foundations like Dick Armey's FreedomWorks, and multi-billionaire Republicans like David Koch, Charles Koch and Richard Mellon Scaife.
There have been a few times at my local grocery store where I've been carded even though I wasn't buying the alcohol. Since then, if I'm not buying it, I'll go hang out elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteNewsday's Jim Baumbach tweets:
ReplyDelete"A friend of Cliff Lee who saw him yesterday predicts -- with no inside information -- that Lee will pick Rangers over Yankees."
Heyman: "favored yankees have offered more $, 1 more guaranteed yr than rangers. but c. lee liked texas, has 3rd team in mix. story soon on si.com"
ReplyDeleteTheo ... is that you?
Is it time for a nickname for Theo? How about 'Man'? Or to be formal: 'The Man.'
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Theo needs a nickname. I like The Man! He is totally The Man.
ReplyDeleteWe can also call him Theoman, as in Superman.
That Tomase article has a "Super Theo" graphic.
ReplyDeleteThe Craw
ReplyDeleteApparently Red Sox Nation is a Theocracy.
ReplyDelete>>Hell, I haven't been carded once in the last six or seven years.
ReplyDeleteI take it you haven't been to Fenway recently?
Six times last year. Used to get carded all the time there. It probably helps that I don't wear a cap that often. ;-)
Theo needs a nickname
ReplyDeleteHow about Poker Face?
"Fuckin' Theo!!!" works for me.
