New Look, Same Great ... Stuff-I-Do-Here

A new look for 2011.

Also: I am now "allan" instead of "redsock", the "the" is gone, and a few things have been (or will be) moved into the row of tabs above.

  1. Great new look! Congrats.

I have also changed my name. After a bit, I'll drop the aka part.

  2. Shit. The name changes on all past posts. I don't like that.

    I might change back.

    Boo.

  4. I'm scared of change.

At least the content is still top notch.

  5. IYI: Subtitle comes from the name of a magazine published in Boston in 1774.

"The Royal American Magazine, or Universal Repository of Instruction and Amusement"

  6. I meant the new dog-less, grouch-less avatar....

  7. We are having the same conversation at wmtc!

Henry Chadwick -- We visited his gravesite in Brooklyn in August 2005 -- wow, only 13 days before we moved!

  8. Wow. Surprize, surprize, surprize!

It'll take some adjusting, but then so did not having Pedro on the team, and we managed :)

  9. it will take me awhile to adjust...for starters i'll have to crank down the font size on my browser! but i like it.

and no name change for me. glad you went with allan, as calling a person i've met personally by their pseudonym online seemed weird. "L" was fine as it was representative of her actual name, laura sounds good though.

avatar will definitely be updated for 2011. not the name though!

  10. also glad to see wmtc was upgraded from "semi-important" to "vitally important" - i was going to throw the question of how L felt about that category, just never got around to it!

  11. I like the new look, Allan. All the best for your great site in 2011.

  12. Tim: L pointed out the "semi-important" a couple of weeks ago. She did not like it!

How is the ratio of font size? Is the title bar too big?

  13. Looks good! But all this change is tough for someone as sentimental as I am: no more Lowell, no more Oki, now no more Redsock, no more L-girl. And no THE! Well, I adjusted to losing Pedro, Nomar, and Manny, so I will adjust to these changes also.

I am thinking of changing my own login name on Blogger. Just trying to think of something catchy. Amy is just so... obvious.

  14. I don't mind the title bar, its just the size of the actual content is like reading one of those newspapers printed for seniors.

Previously the site was centered on my browser with big white borders on each side, now i guess its good that the content fills the screen, its just super big.

I like how drunk jays fans fills the entire screen, yet the text is smaller. Of course, theres too much shit going on the right side of that site and I don't like how the header doesn't fill the whole page.

But enough about my personal preferences for small fonts, do whatever you must!

  15. just dialed my browser down by one magnification setting and its fine and normal now. ignore that last post.

  16. Hey Plainmy! ;-)

Can't wait to see your sentimentality if/when Papelbon departs!

    THANK YOU TIM :)

  18. What is this I don't even

    Poor Benajamin is speechless.

  19. Yeah, the font size is ginormous. (Do people still use that word, or am I stuck in 2009?) But easily fixed with a Control-minus.

    ReplyDelete
  20. no more Redsock, no more L-girl

There will always be Redsock and L-girl.

  21. I found that the look of the site varies greatly. On my laptop and (now) desktop, I had big white spaces on both sides, esp. the left margin. Yet on L's computer upstairs, she had practically no left margin. Plus I think the stat tables (the courier fonts) probably appear smaller or larger in different set-ups.

I want it to look good for me on my screen and everyone else can adjust around that!

I still have maybe 1.5 inches of white on the left side that I would love to cut down.

the size of the actual content is like reading one of those newspapers printed for seniors

In the last few years, I have upped the % of the zoom at work -- to get things as big as I can but still have the entire width of the page on the screen (without a scroll bar on the bottom).

If anything seems out of proportion, let me know. I don't mind suggestions, as long you understand I may ignore all of them!

  22. Hey! How about suggested name changes?

    Out: "Amy"
    In: "I Hate Papelbon"

  23. Poor Benajamin is speechless.

Nah, just lame for repeating a tired internet meme.

I am thinking of changing my own login name on Blogger. Just trying to think of something catchy. Amy is just so... obvious.

Curt Schilling's career wins total is the same as your office number. So there's that.

  24. Pardon my French. That should've been:
    PapelPASbon.

  25. You know, since reading this thread I keep hitting apple+ (the Mac equivalent of ctrl+) and Bobby Jenks' pink beard gets scarier and scarier.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hmmm. Like the new look, maybe I should change mine from westcoastsox to "Rick."

    ReplyDelete
  27. Change!!

Though I'd prefer the text to be a little smaller, change is goood to a degree.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nice look! It looks good on any screen I have (my 15" widescreen laptop or my 22" desktop monitor). Just don't change anything related to the usual fare I enjoy here. :-)

  29. Curt Schilling's career wins total is the same as your office number. So there's that.

Creepy---how do you know my office number??

This is exactly why I need a new name.

    ReplyDelete
  30. No sentiment for Papelbon, that's for sure. I will miss him as much as I miss Gagne.

As for my new name, it will be gender neutral and it will protect my identity better so that I don't have to worry about people knowing where I work---including what my office number is....

So the rest of the world will be moving towards using their real names, and I will become something more anonymous.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh, and I like the larger font. Much easier on my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Public service announcement:

For larger font on any website, use Ctrl+ (plus sign), Mac users apple + (plus sign).

For smaller font (i.e. website taking up less room on your screen), use Ctrl- (minus sign).

    ReplyDelete
  33. Saw that this morning. (The interviewer really should have cleaned up the umms, you knows, and likes. There is no need to be exactly verbatim.)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks good. Good Luck with all the new monikers! Can't wait to enjoy 2011 here with you all, with or without new names.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Amy, I know where you work for the same reason you know where I work: we've, you know, met? :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh, I know, Benjamin! It's not the regular JOS gang I worry about---it's others (like my students) who might be able to figure out who I am that has made me rethink being so obvious about who I am.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like the new look. The ratio of header to the rest of the page looks good - the way my OS is set - on the Firefox Browser and looks even better on Google Chrome - a nicer buffer on each side.

Did you build the new header yourself or switch templates in Blogger? - if the later, which template is it?

Also, I second laura's Ctrl + - comment; the Firefox browser is so easy to work with.

  38. I think I found it!

  39. Just picked a new Blogger template and played with the colours, fonts, and sizes.
