Josh Beckett was hit on the left side of his head by a batted ball this morning. He walked off the field with a trainer and was seen on the Sox bench during the early innings of today's game against Minnesota.
Several writers at the park just reported that Beckett has "mild concussion symptoms" and was sent home. He will be re-examined tomorrow.

It didn't sound super serious -- though the circumstances of how it happened are fucked up.
Of the incident, Tito said: "I bet you it felt like a bolt of lightning. That's not really what you're expecting. It's just a fluke thing. Fortunately, it hit Beckett in the head. It's better than hitting him in the shoulder."

Well, here is something I never thought I (or any other Red Sox fan) would ever say:

I see no reason why Francona shouldn't stay until he doesn't want manage anymore. Imagine that. A Red Sox fan begging that the current manager *never* gets fired. These are strange times!
