Mayor's Cup: Too Much Too Soon

Red Sox - 000 000 031 - 4 9 2
Twins - 010 041 02x - 8 12 1
Beckett (2-2-1-0-0, 23) allowed a double, a triple, and a couple of loud outs. Buchholz (2-0-0-0-1, 18) retired all six batters he faced. Okajima imploded (1-5-4-4-0-2), allowing three singles to load the bases to begin the fifth, then giving up a one-out triple to clear them. (Pitch counts from the Globe.)
Example
Terry Francona knows the stakes are high:
There's a lot of anxiety. Gardy can say what he wants but he moved up Pavano two days, And we're bringing in [Clay Buchholz] second. It's like facing the Yankees Opening Day. It's too much too soon.
The Red Sox have won the Fort Myers city series against the Twins each of the last four springs. Tito: "It's hard not to be arrogant."

In addition to the 7 PM game tonight, the Sox and Twins also play afternoon games tomorrow and Tuesday.

Lineup:
McDonald, LF
Lowrie, 2B
Ortiz, DH
Youkilis, 3B
Cameron, CF
Saltalamacchia, C
Kalish, RF
Anderson, 1B
Iglesias, SS

Pitchers: Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Brandon Duckworth,
Hideki Okajima, Scott Atchison, Dan Wheeler

If tito was serious about this mayor's cup, Jeemer wouldn't have been pitching.

5 hits, 4 runs. errrrrr, cut this fucker now!

A mere three singles for our O through 7 innings. 6-0 Twins.

Man, the bats are quiet tonight.

(and right as I type this AAANNNDDDEERRSSOOONNNNN hits a DONG! Woo!)

I'm still worried about Beckett. Jeemer officially scares me right now. Ugh.

A couple of signs of life in the last couple of innings, but too many mistakes pitching and defensively doomed the team. Ah, well. Get 'em next time, Sox.

sigh. dunno about you guys but this is the type of loss that spells no postseason baseball for these guys.

maybe next year.

late rally is not enough - typical red sox.

plus the mfy won today.

looks like another bridge year.

Jeemer was able to enjoy today's game while he was out there.

Guess he's a big fan of offense.

I love this guy...

Tito has made it clear with these comments that he has no confidence in the AL East race and is setting expectations appropriately by focusing on the Twins and Cup.

I don't know if this is another bridge year or not. Adrian didn't play at all, for example.

I do agree that if we have a lot of late rally games, things won't go well.

I'm not sure everyone is picking up on the sarcasm.

As a sarcasm-challenged reader, I can usually spot my own kind.

"That being said", we are doooooomed.
