The Red Sox have invited the following non-roster players to spring training:
LHPs: Rich Hill, Andrew Miller, Randy WilliamsThe order of the June 2011 major league draft is set and Boston has four of the top 40 overall picks (two in the first round (#s 19 and 26) and two in the sandwich round (36 and 40). WEEI's Alex Speier reports that the Red Sox:
RHPs: Jason Bergmann, Brandon Duckworth, Matthew Fox, Tony Pena Jr., Jason Rice, Clevelan Santeliz, Kyle Weiland, Alex Wilson
Catchers: Tim Federowicz, Paul Hoover, Ryan Lavarnway
Infielders: Brent Dlugach, Hector Luna, Nate Spears, Drew Sutton
Outfielders: Che-Hsuan Lin, Juan Carlos Linares
are in tremendous position for the upcoming draft, which is considered to feature one of the top prospect pools in recent memory, rivaling the quality of the outstanding 2005 draft class that netted the Sox Jacoby Ellsbury, Clay Buchholz, Jed Lowrie, Michael Bowden and Craig Hansen.Over at Fangraphs, Dave Cameron names the Red Sox as one of the five best-positioned teams for the draft (along with the Diamondbacks, Rays, Padres, and Blue Jays). Of the first 60 picks, Tampa Bay has #s: 24, 31, 32, 38, 41, 42, 52, 56, 59, 60. ... The Yankees' only pick in the first 60 spots is #51.
Satchel Price at Beyond the Box Score ranks the AL East starting rotations, with Boston at #2. ... After their Big 3, New York's starters are listed as Freddy Garcia, Ivan Nova, Bartolo Colon, Mark Prior, Andrew Brackman, and Sergio Mitre. (Andy Pettitte will announce his retirement tomorrow.)
Pettitte to retire: You can add a couple more wins to your projections.
ReplyDeleteIt looks to me that beyond the box score there lies a whole bunch of bullcrap.
ReplyDeleteI think that writer is confusing "best now" with "COULD be great in five years." You gotta know more about pitching than that with a name like Satchel!
How many spots are the non-rosters gunning for at this point? Or are they looking to get a minor league deal?
ReplyDeleteHill might have a shot, but that is about it. Would Tito have a second lefty, assuming Jeemer makes the club? Doubront might sneak in, too, but they may really want him starting in Pawtucket.
