Crawford: 4th Player With 1,500 Hits & 400 SB Before Turning 30

Carl Crawford's single in the third inning last night was the 1,500th hit of his career. He is the fourth modern era player (since 1900) to have 1,500 hits and 400 stolen bases before his 30th birthday (Ty Cobb, Eddie Collins, and Cesar Cedeno are the others.)

Crawford added a single in the seventh inning and is hitting .324 over his last nine games. Crawford, now in his 10th major league season, has 1,501 hits and 414 stolen bases.

Hit Streaks (while noting that Andre Ethier is at 29):

Jacoby Ellsbury: 12 games, 19-for-51, .373, 8 doubles, 12 runs, .418 OBP

Adrian Gonzalez: 10 games, 17-for-42, .405, 11 RBI

Gonzalez has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games (.361/.395/.528), dating back to April 16. Boston is 12-5 in that time.

Since his rough Opening day start, Jon Lester has a 1.54 ERA in six starts. Lester's overall ERA of 2.33 is 8th in the AL. ... Boston's pitching staff now has the 5th-lowest WHIP in the AL.

Using Dustin Pedroia's 13-pitch at-bat against Jered Weaver as a springboard, Michael Silverman talks to Jason Varitek, Adrian Gonzalez, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia about other long at-bats they can remember - and finds their memories (from 2004, 2005 and 2007, respectively) extremely accurate.

Terry Francona said Kevin Youkilis was pulled from last night's lineup about 30 minutes before the first pitch:
He was really sick. We've got it going around. David [Ortiz] had it last night. We came real close last night [Monday] to taking David out. I'm glad he was OK [Flo singled and hit a two-run HR]. Youk was lightheaded before the game and struggling. He wanted to try it and then it wasn't going to happen.

  1. Benjamin, you're right. That Herald URL about the long AB now goes to another story, which already has its own link. I hope they fix it soon.
