OK, OK. Off topic, but I can't stand it any longer. I have to strut just a bit.
I have a relative playing in the World Series! Not a "blood" relative but still, he's family and in the freaking World Series no less! And not just playing, doing very well. No, not as well as Pujols, but hey.
Lance Lynn, who got the W in last night's game is the stepson of my first cousin on my mom's side. He married Lance's mom while Lance was in high school, and has been talking him up ever since. Rightfully so, it appears.
Lance was a key part of the Game 5 win in the NLCS. He has appeared in 7 of the 9 postseason games possible so far. (He was on the DL for the opening series.) He's pitched 8.1 inn., with a 2-0 record and a 1.08 era. Needless to say, we're stoked arund here. His mom and dad were here visiting from Indiana during the opening series and said they were fairly certain he would be activated for the NLCS, if the Cards made it, and were just hoping that maybe he'd get a shot to appear. Well, he's done that and more. A Win in a World Series game! That just doesn't happen to everybody.......
Of course, in the "just-my-luck dept. - The only time I have been out in public while he was pitching was during WS Gm2. He came on in the top of the 9th, up by 1 run, with no outs and men on 2nd and 3rd. I'm calling all my buddies over to point him out, saying "see that guy on the mound," etc. etc. Got 3 straight outs, but the first 2 were sac flies that scored the tying and go-ahead/winning runs for Texas. Not charged to him, but still a bit of a let-down. Think I'll watch from home from now on :-)
In game 2 1956, the Dodgers scored multiple runs in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th. In the 3rd, they scored 1, and left the bases loaded. So close.
The guy sitting behind home plate and hiding his face in despair. Priceless!
