Just their arrogance. The fans come in and they take over the city [Baltimore]. They're ruthless. They're vulgar. They cause trouble. They talk about your family. Swear at you. Who likes that? When people do that, it just gives you more incentive to beat them. Then when things like [the last game of last season] happen, you celebrate even more. You go to St. Louis - classiest fans in the game. You do well, there's no vulgarity. You know what? You don't wish them bad. ...I'm glad Scott and the Orioles enjoyed winning their 69th game of the season so much. Baltimore had a better record than three teams; woo-hoo! Scott plays for the Rays now and will be at Fenway for the Red Sox home opener on April 13. (He's also a Teabagger and a huge Nugent fan, so you know he's just about the dimmest knife in the shed.)
The clubhouse afterward was like we'd just won the World Series - a lot of celebrating, a lot of high emotions. ... Everybody's giving high-fives, then all of a sudden [Longoria] homers. Everybody's in the clubhouse and it's like, Bam! And we're like, "Go home Boston! Pack your bags. See you next year." ...
I got to see a priceless thing driving back to my apartment. I see all the Boston fans walking around, and I mean they were crying crocodile tears. People were like this, walking side by side. It was like someone shot their dog. I rolled down the window and I'm like, "Ah, hah, sucks doesn't it, when someone laughs or makes fun of you when things aren't going your way."

Luke Scott Thinks Red Sox Fans Are Arrogant And Vulgar; Wait Until He Hears Them This Year
Well, they ain't gonna act more friendly to you now.
"sucks doesn't it, when someone laughs or makes fun of you when things aren't going your way."
ReplyDeleteYeah, Red Sox fans know NOTHING about things not going our way.... what a "moran."
SoSHer Toe Nash: "Luke Scott wasn't even playing in that final game (or series). Or any game past July. It would be like Dice-K talking trash."
ReplyDeleteOn some level I agree with sentiment here. I am a life long Sox fan now living in DC. The couple of times the Sox have come to town the normally family friendly stadium has been a train wreck of drunk massholes picking fights and talking smack to anyone wearing a Nats hat... regardless of age or gender. Yeah, the Nats suck but a 6 year old should be allowed to wear his Zimmerman jersey in peace even if it is a sub .500 team.
ReplyDeleteHe's also a Teabagger and a huge Nugent fan
ReplyDelete... and a birther!
I'd say, yes, he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic.
AJ Burnett bunts a ball off his eye.

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, the Sox fans didn't steal the tickets from the Nats fans.
Second of all, I've never witnessed any adult ever talk smack to a 6 year old, anywhere, ever. I'm just saying, as long as we're sharing personal stories, my experiences at Sox-Nats and Sox-O's games down there have been wildly different from yours. There are dicks in life but I've never seen anything like a drunken train wreck at these games. I've also never met a Sox fan who gave a shit about the Washington Nationals enough to care enough to mock any of their fans.
Yeah, Red Sox fans know NOTHING about things not going our way
ReplyDeleteAnd further to the point, about people laughing or making fun at those times!
normally family friendly stadium
ReplyDeleteThe Northeast US does have a specific fan culture - Boston, NYY, NYM, Philadelphia - crowds are rowdier than in many other places. I have never found an appreciable difference between these fans in public.
There are towns where fans are usually very passive and quiet, and there are parks where the music and sound effects are blasting so loud, fans just sit there in dull silence (Cleveland, Baltimore come to mind).
There are also parks that are orderly and seemingly "family friendly" because the team is not competitive. There's nothing at stake, it's just a friendly day at the park. Wrigley is like this, Dodger Stadium was like this when I was there. Perhaps this applies to Nats fans?
