Beckett Also Has Injured Thumb, May Miss Two Starts

Update: Bobby Valentine said that he expects Josh Beckett to make his start this Saturday in Detroit.
He threw 100 pitches yesterday and felt great, hit location. He's had a little situation that he's getting taken care of today just for peace of mind. ... From all the reports that we got after yesterday and he said he felt really good. I talked to the trainers and [pitching coach] Bob [McClure]. ... It seemed like everything was fine.
When asked via text if he was starting in G2, Beckett replied, "as far as I know".

Valentine added: "Thumb wrestling is not allowed. We took that out of the program."
Example
Alfredo Aceves has been told that he may be in the rotation to start the season after all, as Josh Beckett has a thumb injury that may force him to miss at least two starts.

Michael Silverman, Herald:
Aceves just told us he was told by Valentine that Beckett has a thumb issue that might require Aceves to start for Beckett in Game 2
Gordon Edes, ESPNBoston:
Red Sox source mentioned possible thumb issue with Beckett 10 days ago, but Beckett had no subsequent issues so not mentioned again
Brian MacPherson, Journal:
Details are very, very sketchy, but Aceves said he's been told to be on reserve for Beckett's first two starts.

Beckett threw a controlled bullpen session on Sunday. Bob McClure said nothing about any sort of injury when asked about it.

Per the #RedSox, Beckett is on his way to San Antonio to get his thumb checked on his way to Detroit.

More details will have to wait for Bobby Valentine, who will talk to the media at 11.
A little more from MacPherson.
