ESPN Predictions

Last year, ESPN's experts were ga-ga over the Red Sox:
45 of 45 (100%) picked the Red Sox to win the AL East
42 of 45 (93%) picked the Red Sox to win the AL pennant
33 of 45 (73%) picked the Red Sox to win the World Series
For 2012, however, they are not so positive.

  1. Tito put the Sox in the WC with the Rays (it wasn't in red like the others). I wonder how he feels predicting the NYY in the ALEast. Bitter? Perhaps some Schadenfreude of his own?

  2. For comparison, AL pennant odds at a top gambling site:

    Yanks 3.5/1
    Tigers 4/1
    Angles 4/1
    Red Sox 5.5/1
    Rangers 5.5/1
    Rays 9/1

  3. I hope Francona is not bitter. Since he will always be THE most celebrated manager in Red Sox history, and no managerial job lasts forever, I hope he has no regrets or bitterness.

  4. So do I, Laura, and he seems to be the kind of person who would feel that way. But if I had been treated the way he was last fall by the owners and the press, I am not sure I would be such a big person.

no one picked either the cards or the rangers as pennant winners...
i've learned not to believe the hype... like i read somewhere here "i rather be the underrated than the overrated"

  6. I vote bitter - or angry, since even though he was the greatest manager in team history the FO took a dump on him and tried to trash his reputation as he left - but I doubt it affected his picks.

  8. Interesting....maybe Blogger finally realized their mistake? Anyway, I am glad that the option has returned, even if only temporarily.

  9. If we had control over those features at Blogger, there would never be an issue! Allan got 2 lost features back on his blog. I'm still waiting for them to appear on mine.
