G3: Tigers 13, Red Sox 12 (11)

Red Sox - 025 002 001 02 - 12 18 0
Tigers - 410 200 003 03 - 13 17 0
What the hell can you say?

It was great to see the bats awaken - three hits from Ortiz, Aviles, Punto; two each from Ellsbury and Gonzalez (who homered) - and we received some sterling relief pitching from Vicente Padilla (4-2-0-0-4, 51) and Franklin Morales (2-1-0-0-3, 29).

But these Tigers can hit. A three-run home run from Cabrera (5 RBI) off Aceves (0-3-3-0-0, 7) in the ninth to tie it, and a two-run shot from Avila in the eleventh off Melancon (who was one strike away from the save) to win it.

Boston is 0-3 to start the season for the second consecutive year; that hasn't happened since the absolute dead years of the early 1930s.

My advice to you: stay away from all Boston media until further notice.
Example
Clay Buchholz / Max Scherzer

The Red Sox have scored two runs in 18 innings. Jacoby Ellsbury (0-for-7) has hit one ball out of the infield and has yet to reach base. Kevin Youkilis (0-for-8) struck out in four consecutive plate appearances. Cody Ross is also 0-for-8. The team has drawn three walks and struck out 19 times. On Saturday, Josh Beckett tied a career-high by allowing five home runs while the Sox got only two runners past first base.

The top five batters in the order - Ellsbury (0-for-7), Dustin Pedroia (1-for-7), Adrian Gonzalez (3-for-7), David Ortiz (2-for-6), Youkilis (0-for-8) - are hitting .167 (6-for-36). ... Ryan Sweeney has as many hits as Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis, Ortiz, Ross, Mike Aviles, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia combined.

It's been a bad two games.

Last time the Red Sox started two consecutive seasons 0-2: 1986-1987

Last time the Red Sox started two consecutive seasons 0-3: 1931-1933 (3 seasons)

Buchholz makes his first appearance since last June 16 in an effort to salvage the final game of the series.

Bobby V is stoopid and Allan is complaining about lineups. Thank dog there are some things you can count on in this world.

Maybe Punto destroys Scherzer?

YEAH! .500 OBP!!

Oh, he's 0 for 1 with a BB. Rest of Sox)

yeah yeah lineups really dont matter yeah yeah, but wtf.
"with this strong lineup who is the one guy we want to make sure comes up the most times today? why, nick punto, of course."

(i'll stop now.
and watch as punto goes 5 for 5. still a moronic decision, though.)

Punto first pitch dong.

As he rounds third and the camera zooms in, he looks at the camera, gives the finger and says "Fuck you, Allan Wood!"

laura k said...

Yeah!! And Punto will earn the nickname FUALLAN. FYA? Foo'lan?

(Remember FUNIX?)

If he pulled that off he'd be Full On!
(or how to stretch FUAllan to Fullan to Full On!)
(or you could go FUAllan to Fallon to Jimmy)
(or I should just go and wash the dishes)

Why are we playing our B squad? Doesn't Bobby know spring training is over?

Hoping to catch some of the game today, maybe even some threading.

Nickname may be Sparky, as per BV's quote about leading him off:

"Just want to see what it looks like. See if it gives us a little spark. He's a sparking kind of player who battles every at-bat."

It's the Weak Sunday lineup. Tito often did the same thing. ... Just keeping the bench fresh. I'm cool with it.

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?

This morning I said, First we lost a pitching duel, then we lost by getting pounded. How can we lose today?

Good thing we're not superstitious!

Yeah thats great and all, but we have a pretty good spark in that spot..

The Tigers are good, real good. But with that said, why send salty up and not Yook? Need him in case of injury?

They need a closer now,I am not saying anything no one doesn't allready know...but we have one on the team that everyone thought would be the closer... It seems alot easier to replace a 5th starter than a top notch closer, and I think Bard can be that... Are they really scratching their heads about this?
