Rays - 000 100 102 - 4 9 0 Red Sox - 000 000 300 - 3 7 1Alfredo Aceves blew his first save opportunity since April 21, as Sean Rodriguez hit a two-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth.
Buchholz (7-8-2-1-6, 111) turned in his best start of the season. Adrian Gonzalez hit a three-run dong for Boston. Gonzalez also batted with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth, but grounded out to shortstop.
The Red Sox went in order in the ninth. ... Kevin Youkilis and Scott Podsednik each had two hits.Jeremy Hellickson / Clay Buchholz
He bunts way tooooooo much, I am not sure the bunt has produced a run yet this season..
ReplyDeleteAwful loss, but I'm encouraged by HH's start and Gonzalez's homer. Hopefully a revenge series against Detroit (Remember what they did to us in the opening series? I sure as hell do!) gets the guys going.
ReplyDeleteIn games like this our injuries , to me, seem to show up. If you even added just Ross to our lineup it makes it that much longer and you add Ross and Ellsbury.
ReplyDeleteThink about what are lineup could be.
Ellsbury
Pedroia
Ortiz
Yook
Gonzo
Middlebrooks
Ross/Sweeney
Salty
Aviles
That aint to bad, after the All - Star break, with the pitching improving and guys coming back they should be pretty good. They just have to hold ground right now. If they could go into the break 5 over .500 I like our chances.
That is a remarkably unemotional summary. I thought AG's homer was one of the highlights of the season, esp. seeing how fired up he was when Ortiz congratulated him after he crossed the plate. I suspected stranding those runners in the 8th was going to haunt them, but I didn't see Aceves serving up that meatball in the 9th either. So disappointing but it's only one game. Thanks again for continuing these write-ups this year.
ReplyDeleteThat is a remarkably unemotional summary.
ReplyDeleteI missed the entire Rays series and was writing from the box scores and pbp.
