Tim Welke Makes "The Worst Call Of The Year"

With roughly six months of baseball left to be played in 2012, I'm nowhere near ready to crown this atrocity as the worst of the year.

Screengrab from Fangraphs.

Here is another shot:

Yer Out!!

Deadspin:
Today Tim Welke demonstrated why the Human Element is bullshit, by blowing a call that was obvious to anyone watching in the stadium—indeed, it should have been obvious to the other three umpires, but due to the esoteric rules regarding overruling decisions, they each had to stay quiet.
And a gif!

Unbelievable.

I WANT ROBOTS - AND I WANT THEM NOW!

Watching last night's Sox game, I was disgusted that Gammons claimed that Selig was right about going about replay correctly. I think Orsillo added that further expansion would be complicated.

So we have time for lengthy commercial breaks but no time for replay to assist in making the right call?

I thought that the "consistency" fairy was the get-out-of-jail rationale for a plate umpire's personal strike zone. Then last night, in the 9th, when the plate ump's zone suddenly expanded a few inches when the Sox were batting--you had idiot Gammons saying "that's OK" because he'd gone the whole game with nobody complaining about his normal zone. You simply cannot win with people who will not move from the status quo.
Not the the kind of robots we're looking for.

Priorities.

And Gammons the enabler. Until the mainstream sports media gets on board with this, change will be impossible.

The "consistency" argument: Being wrong all the time is a good thing.

Jered Weaver got some incredible strike calls in his no-hitter.
