Speak Out Against The Boston Sports Media This Weekend

Jere has dubbed the four-game series against the Yankees "Anti-'Boston Sports Media' Sign" Weekend At Fenway:
Four games, on four networks. Bring your anti-Boston Sports Media signs to the ballpark! Or make them once you're inside. The media's ego has exploded, and they're making not only themselves but us look like morons. It's time to let them know that they don't represent Red Sox fans, that it's not all about them, and that they need to leave the players alone and let them play ball!
I really like one of Jere's suggestions:
The only thing TOXIC around here is the MEDIA
If you are sick of reading articles and columns by writers who manipulate quotes, blow insignificant events out of proportion, create drama where none exists, blatantly carry water for the front office or specific agents, allow personal grudges with players to affect their coverage of the team, and/or treat loyal fans with snark and condescension, then make your own sign and bring it to the park!

P.S. Also, stop reading (or listening to) these mediots. There are plenty of less bullshitty ways - like Over The Monster - to get as much Red Sox news as you need.

P.P.S. The Boston sports media should not be painted with such a broad brush, however. There are a handful of writers who do excellent work and stick to the facts when at their keyboards, including WEEI's Alex Speier, ESPN's Gordon Edes, the Herald's Michael Silverman, and MLB's Ian Browne.

Nice Jere, I will be holding up my signs in my living room. I wonder if the media will catch wind of this?

As not only a Red Sox fan but a Revolution fan, I never pay attention to the local blowhards. Try it, you'll like it.

Was going to comment on Jere's site initially when I caught wind of this but I'll leave it here (and also copy it over to his site).

I love it. Wish I could partake, and hope it makes it big. Most of all, hope it makes a difference. No matter the immediate effect, as long as it is supported and felt, it will make a difference.

That being said, fuck y'all hataz.

can you start a thread about this on the sosh media forum? was thinking main board but it would likely get moved, no? either way, think it could get some major traction there...

Andy--I actually suggested somebody post it to SoSH on my blog, and was hoping someone did. (I tried to get an account there in 2004, they didn't respond, and I left it at that.)

Seamus: I'm totally on board with ignoring them--and part of this is to tell others to do so! What you just did was to tell others to ignore the media. And that's what I want. People telling people to ignore them. On a large scale. I did go through a very long stretch of completely avoiding them, and yes, I was happier. But after last season, they've just gone to a new level. I can't go on the Internet and say "I'm a Red Sox fan" without being bombarded by chicken and beer jokes. Everyone in the country thinks I "panic" when the Red Sox have a bad inning. Our favorite players are being affected by this shit, and that's the most disheartening part. I can't ignore that any more.

This is a great idea and this is the most important part of it:

P.S. Also, stop reading (or listening to) these mediots.

Cut them loose, then tell them why.

YES! Spoken like a true activist!

Being really busy lately, I can't watch as much as I'd like. I'm grateful for blogs, especially JoS, for helping me keep up without having to wade through the rampant idiocy in the commercial media. (I'm very glad you continued the game summaries after all...a while back you were considering dropping them, if I remember right.)

I think so. But I do them pretty quick after the game, so it is not as much of a time drain as the newsy things. Those I have cut back on, sadly.
