Blue Jays - 000 300 001 - 4 7 0 Red Sox - 020 001 000 - 3 8 0After a horrific 1-8 west coast road trip, the Red Sox came home to Fenway Park - and were promptly swept by the lowly Blue Jays.
The Jays are actually a little less lowly than they were three days ago, having moved into fourth place while dumping Boston into the cellar, a season-worst 16.5 GB. At 63-78, the Red Sox are 15 games below .500 for the first time in 20 years (the end of the 1992 season). ... But hey! The Red Sox can still finish above .500. All they have to do is go 19-2 over their final 21 games!
Buchholz (8.2-7-4-3-4, 121) allowed a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to the ageless Omar Vizquel that gave Toronto its winning margin. Buchholz faced 35 batters, which tied Jon Lester (35 Angels, 121 pitches, August 30) for the team high in 2012.
Jacoby Ellsbury hit a two-run homer in the second, and Dustin Pedroia went deep in the sixth. Cody Ross had two hits and a walk.
The Red Sox's next
Kalish, CF
Podsednik, LF
Pedroia, 2B
Loney, 1B
Ross, DH
Ellsbury, CF
Aviles, SS
Lavarnway, C
Ciriaco, 3B
Now we've moved into sole possession of the 8th pick.
ReplyDeleteNow the John Farrell partisans no longer have to deal with the "but the Jays are in last place!" objection.
