John Farrell had some strong words for MLB's new instant replay system - "It's hard to have any faith in the system" - and MLB has fined him for those comments.
AL East Note: Tampa Bay starter Matt Moore will undergo Tommy John surgery.
So I am watching this game, really trying to feel the "charm" of the bad ball-strike calls I've seen in just two innings.
ReplyDeleteNot feeling it.
Not only that, but they blew another insanely obvious video replay during the game. (This time in the Red Sox's favor.) They said Abreu was out at first when it looked like Napoli was pulled off the bag.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing the White Sox manager had to grit his teeth and say that the replay findings were absolutely correct and everything is wonderful, lest he get fined thousands like Farrell did when he said it was hard to have faith in the system after the Yankees series.
It's disappointing that somehow, maybe not surprisingly, MLB has already f**ked up instant replay only two weeks into the 2014 season.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that we are going to hear more over the next few days from opponents who say that it will "ruin the integrity of the game."
I know the NFL had two phases of instant replay. The first, between 1986 and 1991, was clunky and obtrusive and ended up getting the heave-ho. The second and current system has been in operation since 1999 and, while not perfect, is effective in reversing calls that are made incorrectly.
Bottom line is that the system is going through some growing pains and HOPEFULLY MLB is tweaking the system to make it better.
