Cincinnati's Aroldis Chapman set a MLB record, dating back to 1900, for most consecutive relief appearances with a strikeout: 40.
ReplyDeleteToronto's Dan Johnson went 0-for-0 on Friday night, with four walks and three runs scored.
Johnson's night is not as rare as I thought. Since 1914, 17 players have had games with 0 AB, 3+ runs scored and 4+ walks. (Larry Doby once walked in all 5 PA and scored 4 times.)
ReplyDeleteNick Canelas, WEEI:
ReplyDeletePeavy is 7-4 with a 2.31 ERA in 14 career starts against Houston, but hasn't faced the Astros since 2008 when he was pitching for the Padres. The Houston lineup has changed significantly since then. Peavy hasn't faced a member of the current Astros lineup in his career.

So why the fuck even bring it up?!?!!?!? ... Do you actually read what you write?
Speaking about time-wasting, I got sick of reading story after story about the parity/mediocrity/lousy AL East without ever any W/L record mentioned. So I went to MLB/standings/splits and did a little arithmetic (not math). Going into today's games, the AL East is cumulatively 13 games under .500 vs teams outside the division. How that compares to previous years is anyone's guess. Or whether you should use the AS game or the 81 game mark as your base. It does kinda beat worrying about what's wrong with Bogie.
