Royals - 201 100 002 - 6 13 1 Orioles - 012 010 00x - 4 9 1Amazing! The Royals roll on!
In the top of the ninth, when Kansas City manager Ned Yost had Mike Moustaskas bunt a pinch-runner to second - and then watched happily as Alcides Escobar slammed the first pitch he saw for a double to right field, snapping a 4-4 tie - someone posted to the SoSH Game Thread:
I don't know who said it first but once again Ned Yost hit on 22 and drew a -1.
Started out watching the game, but then work got in the way. Was able to watch the entire ninth inning, though!
ReplyDeleteNotes I had:
Top 1: The Royals struck right away against Bud Norris in the first. After Alcides Escobar lined back to the mound, Nori Aoki singled to left and Lorenzo Cain doubled to right, both opposite field hits. Both runners scored on Eric Hosmer's pop-up single that fell just out of the diving reach of shortstop J.J Hardy in short left field. Hosmer was eventually stranded at third.
Bottom 1: Yordano Ventura retired the side on 11 pitches, getting two fly outs and a strikeout.
Top 2: Salvador Perez singled, but was erased on Omar Infante's GIDP. Norris threw four balls to Mike Moustakas, but home plate umpire Marvin Hudson called the fourth one (in the exact same spot as the first pitch) a strike. Moustaskas eventually saw 10 pitches before popping out to second.
Bottom 3: With one out, Alejandro De Aza doubles and Adam Jones hit a two-run homer to left to tie the game at 3-3.
I'll be interested to read what Poz has to say about Yost. Poz invented 'Jeterate, I think--is his 'Yostify' also original? Then there's 'yostimony.'
ReplyDelete:)
I am enjoying the "Yostseason"!
ReplyDeleteELIAS: Nelson Cruz, who went 2 for 4 in Baltimore's loss to the Royals in Game 2 of the ALCS, has recorded at least two hits in each of the Orioles' five postseason games this year. Cruz is the third player in major-league history to begin a postseason with five consecutive multiple-hit games. The others are Sam Rice (1925 Senators) and Pepper Martin (1931 Cardinals).
