The Red Sox’ month of abject futility is reaching epic proportions. With one run on Thursday, the team has just 44 in 19 contests (2.32) on this turn of the calendar. Since 1914, there are only two instances of the team doing a worse job of crossing the plate in a calendar month.
In April 1914, the Sox had 12 runs in 26 games, an average of 2.17 per day. Then, in April 1943, the team plated 16 runs in seven games, or 2.28 per night.

  2. Haven't read SoSH in months - too many timesinks in my life already - but I'm curious whether there are any intelligent theories about this out there. I thought the theme of the season was going to be "the pitching is dodgy, but they're gonna mash." It seemed reasonable that lineup would. Yet they are distressingly mash-free. What's going on?

  3. There are threads - "The Offense" is probably a good one! - but I stick pretty much only to the games these days, so I can't say what the consensus is. Posters seem to say that the roster was constructed well, but ... SSS? We're at G42 ...

  4. Edes, in his game story:
"The Sox, who have not overcome a deficit of more than three runs all season ..."

    Egads.
