Ramirez left the game following the bottom of the fifth when he was struck on the left wrist by a line drive from Xander Bogaerts on a hit-and-run play ... It was announced as a left hand contusion. ... Pedroia left the game following a single in the sixth, when it appeared he suffered the injury rounding first base. The team announced the injury as right hamstring tightness.

ReplyDeleteChris Denorfia's tenth-inning sacrifice fly gave the Cubs a 1-0 win over the Dodgers. It was the first 1-0 extra-inning win for the Cubs over the Dodgers in almost 100 years. The last such win for the Cubs over the Dodgers came on September 16, 1915 in a game played at West Side Grounds in Chicago.
Maikel Franco had another five-RBI game as the Phillies beat the Yankees. Franco is the first Phillies player, rookie or veteran, to have back-to-back games with at least five runs batted in since 1920 when RBIs became an official statistic. Only two other rookies since 1920 had back-to-back games with at least five RBIs: Brian Daubach for the Red Sox in 1999 and Robinson Cano for the Yankees in 2005. Franco is the first player to drive in at least five runs in consecutive games against the Yankees.
The Yankees and their opponent have combined for at least 16 runs in each of their last four games (17, 16, 19, 17). It's the first time the Yankees have played four consecutive games like that since a five-game streak in 1936. The Yankees have allowed at least 11 runs in each of their last three games, all at Yankee Stadium. It's only the second time in team history that the Yankees allowed at least 11 runs in three consecutive home games. The Yankees lost three straight games to the Red Sox at Hilltop Park from June 20-22, 1912 (15-8, 11-3 and 13-2).
Remember when Mike Napoli hit five home runs in the span of six games? Gordon Edes points out that since then, he is hitting only .182 (17 for 88) while striking out 30 times.
