Mookie Betts singled and tripled and scored twice. ... Alejandro De Aza went 3-for-4.

Because the Rays and Orioles both lost, the Red Sox are now 7 GB in the East.

  1. Elias:
The Mets' Steven Matz went 3-for-3 with four RBIs while throwing 7.2 innings to earn the 7-2 win against the Reds. Matz is the first player -- pitcher or not -- since 1920 (when the major leagues first recorded RBIs) to go 3-for-3 or better with at least four RBIs in his first major-league game. He is also the first pitcher since 1920 to be credited with a win and four or more RBIs in his big-league debut, though we should note than in 1898, Philadelphia pitcher Bill Duggleby, in his first major-league game, hit a home run with the bases full in his first at-bat and went on to defeat New York, 13-4.

After the 3rd AB, Matz's grandfather lost his mind! "Holy Shit!"

  2. Sad, though. The rest of his career will be downhill from here.
