Royals - 001 201 004 - 8 14 0 Red Sox - 020 002 200 - 6 11 3Jackie Bradley continued his torrid performance at the plate. On August 6, his batting average was a lowly .102. Since then - in fifteen games - he has hit .404 (21-for-52), boosting his average to .257. Bradley's 21 hits: seven singles, seven doubles, three triples, four home runs.
Bradley (3-for-4) doubled twice and singled on Sunday, scored two runs, and drove in two. He also threw Omar Infante out at the plate leading off the ninth inning (which was great, but then Junichi Tazawa allowed five additional hits and a walk, and four runs). Before Bradley's single in the ninth inning, his last 11 hits all had been for extra-bases.
Rusney Castillo had two hits and a walk. ... Pablo Sandoval singled and doubled. ... Eduardo Rodriguez (6-7-4-0-1, 104) allowed two earned runs in six innings.

Red Sox Notes: "Today marks the 32nd time in 124 games (26%) that the Red Sox will start a rookie pitcher, just the 2nd time since 1994 that the Red Sox have reached that total (43 rookie starts in 2007, including 32 by Daisuke Matsuzaka). 5 different rookie pitchers have started for BOS in 2015, tied for 2nd most in MLB (CIN - 8)."
ReplyDeleteElias: "The Mets defeated the Rockies 14-9 on Friday night and by that same score on Saturday night. They are the second team in major-league history to win back-to-back games against the same opponent by the same score, with more than 20 runs scored in each game. The first was the 1927 Brooklyn Dodgers, who defeated the Pirates 11-10 in each of two straight games (on June 11 at Forbes Field and June 12 at Ebbets Field)."
I guess this is what we get when Lovullo mouths off about how we still "could make the playoffs."
ReplyDeleteI mean, yeah, it'd be nice. But can we just focus on finishing Boston Strong?
When I left to play frisbee in Central Park (woohoo!), the Yanks were down 4-3 in the 8th and the Jays were down 5-1 early, and I prepared myself for the very real possibility that the lead might go to 1.5. Instead Cleveland holds on to take 3 out of 4, and the Jays win easy, 12-5. Toronto retakes first, hopefully for good. (Also, we saw Dan Fouts walking around the City with that Joe Torre-esque Frankenstinian gait.)
ReplyDeleteMFY lose (and CC to DL?) and Jays win.
ReplyDeleteToronto leads East by 0.5 games.
I know the season is a lost cause, and it's great to see JBJ doing well, but come on, a two run lead in the 9th with two outs? After they played well all night, to throw it away in the last inning is totally demoralizing.
ReplyDeleteJackie Bradley's single ended a streak of 11 straight hits going for extra bases, longest by a Red Sox since 11 by J.D. Drew in 2008 (Elias)
