Alex Speier: "Eduardo Rodriguez has permitted one or no runs while pitching at least five innings 11 times. The Baseball Reference Play Index suggests that Rodriguez’s total represents the most such starts by a lefty in his first 19 career starts in at least the last 100 years, just ahead of the 10 such outings by Dontrelle Willis and Dave Righetti in their first 19 career outings."

ReplyDeleteMookie Betts went 0-for-3 in Boston's loss in Baltimore on Monday, ending his 18-game hitting streak. The only other players to have a hitting streak of that length for the Red Sox before turning 23 years old are Ted Williams in 1941 (23 games; his streak started on the same date as Joe DiMaggio's 56-game streak) and Bobby Doerr in 1939 (also 18 games).
Clayton Kershaw allowed one run in seven innings to extend his unbeaten streak to 13 games, in which he's 9-0 with a 0.98 ERA. Only two other pitchers have gone undefeated with an ERA under 1.00 over a span of 13 or more starts: Bob Gibson in 1968 and Gaylord Perry in 1974.
