The Red Sox rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to complete an 8-7 comeback victory over the Rangers. Boston, which trailed 6-0 at the end of the third inning, had lost its last 120 road games in which it trailed by six or more runs. The Red Sox' last comeback win of that kind on the road was on June 7, 2003 - Boston trailed in Milwaukee by six runs before rallying for an 11-10 victory.
The Red Sox trailed by three runs with two outs in the ninth inning before a RBI-double by Sandy Leon and a two-run homer by Mookie Betts tied up the score. No other team in the majors has won a game this season in which it trailed by three or more runs in the ninth inning or later and had recorded two outs. The last win of that kind for the Red Sox was on September 23, 2003, against the Orioles at Fenway Park. Todd Walker hit a game-tying three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, and David Ortiz hit a walkoff shot to lead off the bottom of the 10th.

Edinson Volquez was chased after recording just three outs and allowing 12 of the Astros' 13 runs. Volquez is the first starting pitcher in over 120 years to allow at least 12 runs in a game while getting no more than three outs. In 1895, Washington Senators' starter John Gilroy allowed 12 runs - all in the first inning - before taking an early exit against the Boston Beaneaters.
There was a notable lack of goose eggs on the scoreboard for the Padres on Friday night. San Diego scored in each of the first eight innings of their 13-4 victory over the Reds. The Padres plated exactly one run in each of the first six innings before upping their output to two runs in the seventh and five runs in the eighth. This is the first game in franchise history in which San Diego scored in each of the first eight innings.

I was at Fenway the night before, after doing a 1918 book appearance at the B&N near the park. Man, that 2003 season was so much fun - until the manager threw the team down the shitter. That was a great team, but not great enough to escape the managerial millstone around its neck.
Today/Saturday:
The White Sox tied a MLB record by hitting 7 HR and losing. Chicago lost to the Blue Jays 10-8. The other two teams to hit 7 rally-killers and lose were the 1995 Tigers and the 2004 Tigers. The last time the White Sox hit seven homers was in a 29-6 win over the Kansas City Athletics on April 23, 1955.
