Red Sox - 001 000 000 - 1 8 1 Angels - 000 000 002 - 2 10 0This one - with two Angels runs scoring on Hanley Ramirez's throwing error on a possible game-ending (and Boston-game-winning) double play grounder - sounded like a real punch in the gut.
David Price (8-7-0-1-6, 109) threw eight shutout innings before Brad Ziegler took over in the ninth. The Angels loaded the bases with one out. Daniel Nava grounded a ball to Ramirez at first. His throw home sailed over the catcher's head and the tying and winning runs scored easily.
Eight of the nine Red Sox batters had a single (Jackie Bradley was hitless). David Ortiz also walked twice.

ReplyDeleteIt marked the first time since Aug. 8, 2003, that the Red Sox lost a game in which they didn’t permit an earned run. It was the first game of the year that the Sox lost when entering the ninth with a lead. It was the second time of the season that the Sox lost a game in which they didn’t give up a single extra-base hit.
The Red Sox are now 8-32 when scoring four or fewer runs, their .200 winning percentage in such games ranking as the fourth-worst in the majors and the second-worst in the AL.
