Red Sox - 000 000 005 - 5 9 1 Angels - 000 030 000 - 3 11 1Top of the 9th:
Huston Street pitching for the Angels.Betts took the first two pitches for strikes in his ninth-inning at-bat, so Boston was one strike away from a three-run defeat when they rallied!
Jackie Bradley walked.
Aaron Hill singled to center, Bradley to second.
Ryan Hanigan struck out swinging.
Brock Holt struck out swinging.
Mookie Betts singled to right center, Bradley scored, Hill to third.
Dustin Pedroia homered to center, Hill, Betts and Pedroia scored.
Xander Bogaerts homered to left center, Bogaerts scored.
Jose Alvarez relieved Street.
David Ortiz flied out to left.
Brad Ziegler allowed a one-out single in the bottom of the ninth, but got a game-ending double play on the next batter.
The Red Sox have won only three of their last 10 games, but they are a mere 1.5 games behind the Orioles. (They would play in the Wild Card game if the season ended today.)
Maybe today's victory can kick off a long hot streak. On to Seattle!

ReplyDeleteOTM: "Despite facing a 2-2 count on four pitches out of the zone, Betts was able to jump on the first strike he actually saw, smacking it into right field to get the Sox on the board."

ReplyDeleteBoston shocked the Angels with five runs in the top of the ninth to post a 5-3 victory at Anaheim. It was the second time this summer that the Red Sox won a road game in which it trailed by three runs heading to the ninth, having also done so against the Rangers on June 24. Prior to that, Boston had lost 89 consecutive road games in which it trailed by three runs after eight innings, a steak that dated back to a come-from-behind victory against the Devil Rays at The Trop in 2002.
I had completely given up on this one!
