G3: Tigers 6, Red Sox 5

Red Sox - 000 000 050 - 5 10 0
Tigers - 100 001 22x - 6 8 1
Through three games, the Red Sox have scored in only three of 29 innings. Does anyone else feel that some Boston sportswriter will take that factoid as evidence that the team's post-Papi offense is in serious trouble and that fans should - with 98.1% of the season still to be played, mind you - begin panicking?

The Red Sox trailed 4-0 when they rallied for five runs in the eighth inning. The big blast was a three-run homer from Pablo Sandoval (who also doubled). I did not see the game, so here's a dry recounting of the big inning: Andrew Benintendi walked with one out. He stole second and went to third on Mitch Moreland's single to right. Chris Young doubled in one run and, after a pitching change, Jackie Bradley singled in another. Sandy Leon struck out. Francisco Rodriguez came in to face Sandoval - who banged an 0-2 pitch out of the park.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom half against the Boston bullpen. After getting the first two batters, Heath Hembree walked both Victor Martinez (whose sac fly and single had driven in Detroit's first two runs) and Justin Upton. Robby Scott came in and gave up a run-scoring double to pinch-hitter Mikie Mahtook. Then Joe Kelly issued two more walks, to James McCann (who hit a two-run homer off Steven Wright (6.2-7-4-3-4, 93) in the seventh) and JaCoby (yes, the C is capitalized) Jones, forcing in the go-ahead run.

In the top of the ninth, facing Rodriguez, Steve Selsky grounded out. Dustin Pedroia reached on an infield single. Benintendi flied out to left. Moreland doubled to right, with Pedroia stopping at third. Young popped out to first.

Yes, we have lost a third of games played already. What will it take to stop the bleeding?

I jokes, obviously.

Indeed. Who would want their team to play .667 ball? That's only a shitty 108-54 record.
