Over the course of 45 years (April 10, 1962 to May 28, 2017), the Houston Colt .45s/Astros were 0-659 in games in which they trailed by at least six runs after seven innings. Then, on Monday, May 29, the Astros trailed the Twins 8-2 as they batted in the top of the eighth. Houston scored 11 runs and tacked on three more in the ninth and won 16-8.
The day before the Twins blew that lead to the Astros, they lost to the Rays 8-6 in 15 innings. Logan Morrison and Evan Longoria hit back-to-back home runs in the 15th inning for Tampa Bay. It was the third time in major-league history that a team hit back-to-back homers in the 15th inning or later.
Frank Malzone and Dick Stuart of the Red Sox did it in the 15th inning at Tiger Stadium on June 11, 1963 as the Red Sox beat the Tigers 7-3. Brian Hunter and Craig Biggio of the Astros went back-to-back in the 15th inning at Shea Stadium on June 16, 1995. But the Mets tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Houston scored two more runs in the 16th and won 8-6.
Seattle's Christian Bergman did not allow a run in seven innings last Sunday against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Bergman became the first Mariners pitcher in ten years to pitch at least seven shutout innings at Fenway. Felix Hernandez did it on April 11, 2007, when he threw a one-hit shutout in a 3-0 win. (That game was Daisuke Matsuzaka's second career start and first appearance in Boston.)
In each of the first four innings against Bergman, the Red Sox hit into a double play. The last time the Red Sox did that was on June 14, 1994, in a 5-4 loss to the Twins.
The Cardinals' 2-0 win over the Dodgers on Thursday was the first in team history in which every run scored on a pitcher's home run and the Cardinals won by shutout. Adam Wainwright hit a two-run homer in the second inning and allowed only four hits over six innings.

And a tweet from Ryan Spaeder:
ReplyDeleteLast 85 plate appearances:
Bryce Harper: 10 XBH & 16 RBI
Mike Trout: 13 XBH & 18 RBI
Adam Wainwright: 14 XBH & 25 RBI
Spaeder also pointed out last Monday's game (TOR 17, CIN 2) in which two Blue Jays relievers gave up 10 hits each! That's rare!
