Stanton Is Making History For The Yankees

More history in the Bronx!

Giancarlo Stanton has done something no other Yankees player has ever done:

Pride! Power! Punchouts!
April 3 vs Rays
1st inning: bbfff - Struck Out Swinging
3rd inning: csb - Struck Out Looking
5th inning: fcbf - Struck Out Swinging
7th inning: bbcs - Struck Out Swinging
8th inning: scb - Struck Out Swinging

April 4 vs Rays
1st inning: sfb - Home Run
3rd inning: bfbc - Struck Out Swinging
4th inning: bcsb - Struck Out Looking
7th inning: csf - Struck Out Swinging
Since Opening Day, Stanton is 2-for-22, with 12 strikeouts (.091/.231/.273).

Also from Elias:
Shohei Ohtani is the 4th player in the Live Ball Era (since 1920) with a win as a pitcher, and 2 HR as a hitter in his team's first 7 games of a season, along with Bronson Arroyo (2006), Don Newcombe (1955) and Hal Schumacher (1934).

Shohei Ohtani picked up a win on Sunday, then hit a 1st-inning HR on Tuesday. The last player to do that in a 2-day span? Babe Ruth in 1921.

Tuesday's Cardinals/Brewers game was the first game in major league history that started and ended with back-to-back home runs.
Dexter Fowler (first pitch) and Tommy Pham (1-0 count) began the game with dongs for the Cubs. In the bottom of the ninth, the Brewers trailed 4-3 with two outs and a 2-2 count on Christian Yelich. He homered to tie the game and Ryan Braun hit the first pitch for a game-winning home run.

  1. March 31-April 4: Stanton had a stretch of 15 plate appearances in which he saw 71 pitches. He swung at 29 pitches, missing 17, fouling 10, and putting 2 into play (F8 and HR). He went 1-for-11, with 9 strikeouts.

    0331 - BB
    0401 - BB BB K BB F8
    0403 - K K K K K
    0404 - HR K K K

(In his first PA on 0405, he saw 2 pitches before grounding out, so I suppose it could be a stretch of 73 pitches.)
