Red Sox Pitchers With 3+ RBI In A Game

Since 1908, a Red Sox pitcher has driven in three or more runs in a game 94 times.

Rick Porcello is #94, of course. He is also the only Red Sox pitcher to have a 3+-RBI game in the DH-era (now in its 46th year).

The last Boston pitcher to drive in three or more runs was Sonny Siebert, who hit two home runs and had three RBI on September 2, 1971. Earlier that year, in the second game of a June 26, 1971 doubleheader, Siebert knocked in five runs against the Orioles.

Two Red Sox pitchers have driven in six runs in a game. Wes Ferrell drove in all six runs in the first game of a August 1, 1936 doubleheader against the Philadelphia A's and Ellis Kinder had six RBI in a 9-2 win over the White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader on August 6, 1950.

Siebert's two homers on September 2, 1971 tied the Red Sox record, which was set by Wes Ferrell on three occasions: July 13, 1934, July 31, 1935, and August 12, 1936 (G1).

Babe Ruth and Red Ruffing hold the Boston record with five 3+-RBI games. Joe Bush, Dave Ferriss, Earl Wilson, Lefty Grove, and Wes Ferrell did it four times. ... Bush did it three times in 1918. Ferrell did it twice in one week: July 6 and 13, 1934.

A major league pitcher has driven in six or more runs in a game 13 times since 1908. Tony Cloninger holds the record with nine RBI, on July 3, 1966. Vic Rashi and Robert Person have had games of seven RBI.

There are undoubtedly more than 94 such games in Red Sox history, as Baseball Reference's database does not include games from 1901-07.
