Chris Sale Pushed Back To A Possible Game 6; Cora Has Not Named A Game 5 Starter

Alex Cora said this afternoon that Chris Sale will not pitch Game 5 of the ALCS tomorrow night. If the Red Sox do not clinch the American League pennant in Houston, Sale would pitch Game 6 at Fenway Park on Saturday.
[H]e's not going to throw a bullpen today, probably tomorrow. He feels weak. He actually lost weight, which is hard to believe. We talked about it, he said he needed an extra day -- obviously two. He'll pitch Game 6. ... He came in like no way I can do it tomorrow. I was like, oh I knew that. Like, it wasn't something I was planning on doing anyways because like I said, it's more about the individual than actually the team. I'm not going to throw him out there when he's weak and he can't compete at the level he wants and we want him to go. So, it'll be good for him to get the next two days and go get the ball in Game 6 if necessary.
With no official announcement having been made about the Game 5 starter, speculation abounds: Eduardo Rodriguez for a few innings followed a bunch of relievers, David Price on short rest, or perhaps Joe Kelly as an "opener" followed by Rodriguez and/or Price.

With Sale starting a possible Game 6, Nathan Eovaldi would start Game 7.

  1. Foul play? Maybe Kyle McLaughlin surreptitiously put something into his food to cause this.
