G11: Red Sox 1, Diamondbacks 0

Red Sox - 000 000 100 - 1 5 0
Diamondbacks - 000 000 000 - 0 3 0
Five Red Sox pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout and Mitch Moreland led off the seventh inning hit a solo home run, sending the Red Sox back to Boston with a 1-0 win.

Hector Velazquez (3-1-0-0-3, 39), Brandon Workman (1-0-0-0-1, 12), Marcus Walden (2-1-0-1-1, 24), Matt Barnes (2-0-0-0-2, 25), and Ryan Brasier (1-1-0-0-1, 15) allowed only four baserunners:
3rd: One-out single
5th: Leadoff double
6th: Two-out walk
9th: Two-out double
David Peralta hit the double off Brasier and Tim Locastro went in to pinch-run. There was no time to get nervous because Adam Jones grounded Brasier's first pitch to Bogaerts for the final out. ... Time of game: 2:29.

In the two games I have missed this season (G2 and today), the Red Sox are 2-0. ... I am considering taking the rest of the month off.

Hector Velázquez / Merrill Kelly

After three relief appearances this season, Velázquez gets a spot start as The Road Trip From Hell finally comes to an end. He had a 4.15 ERA in eight starts last year.

Merrill Kelly, 30 years old and an Arizona native, spent the last four years in the Korea Baseball Organization. He made his major league debut on April 1, pitching six innings and allowing three runs to the Padres.
