G37: Red Sox 8, Orioles 5

Red Sox - 200 130 002 - 8 7 0
Orioles - 200 100 020 - 5 8 0
The Red Sox bested the Orioles on the strength of three home runs, including the 200th of J.D. Martinez's career. His two-run blast to left-center, in the opening inning, traveled 416 feet and was his first since April 17 (71 plate appearances), his longest dong drought in five years.

The Orioles wiped out that 2-0 lead on Rio Ruiz's two-run homer against Hector Velázquez (3-3-2-1-0, 46). After Xander Bogaerts went deep to give Boston a 3-2 edge, Hanser Alberto's homer off Marcus Walden tied the game at 3-3.

The Red Sox took a 6-3 advantage in the fifth, thanks to Mitch Moreland's 10th homer of the season. Baltimore closed the gap to 6-5, but Matt Barnes quieted the Birds in the eighth and ninth.

The Red Sox squandered a couple of scoring opportunities. After Bogaerts's blast led off the fourth, Rafael Devers singled and Michael Chavis walked. Jackie Bradley bunted the runners to second and third, but Christian Vázquez grounded to first and Andrew Benintendi struck out.

The Red Sox led 6-5 and hoped for some extra runs in the ninth. Bradley walked on four pitches and Vázquez singled to right. Orioles reliever Evan Phillips hit Benintendi to load the bases with no out. Mookie Betts eventually walked on eight pitches, forcing in a run. Miguel Castro replaced Phillips and gave up a sac fly to Martinez and retired the next two hitters without incident.

Barnes struck out Stevie Wilkerson with the potential tying run on first to end the eighth. In the ninth, Barnes walked Joey Rickard with one out. Renato Nunez came off the bench to pinch-hit and grounded a 1-1 pitch into a 6-4-3 double play.

P.S.: Marcus Walden has pitched 20.1 innings and has more wins than Chris Sale, David Price, Rick Porcello, Nathan Eovaldi, and Hector Velázquez - who have made 28 starts this year -  combined.
