Dongs, Dongs, And More Dongs

Major league hitters smacked 1,135 home runs in May, the most in any month in baseball history. The previous mark was 1,119 (set way back in August 2017).

There was a home run hit every 25 at-bats in May, the highest in a month in MLB history, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

For the first time ever, three teams hit 50+ home runs in the same month: Twins (56), Cubs (51), Red Sox (51). The Twins fell just short of the record of 58 homers in any month (1987 Orioles (May) and 1999 Mariners (May).

The Twins also set a major league record with nine players hitting at least four homers during one month.

In 2017, there were 6,105 home runs hit. Teams are on pace this year for 6,510 dongs.

Of all runs scored this season, 44.5% have come via homer, far more than the record of 42.3% in 2017.
