Rays - 130 003 011 - 9 12 0 Red Sox - 200 010 100 - 4 10 0This useless game featured multiple examples of one of the more infuriating traits of the 2019 Red Sox - scoring run(s) and then handing them right back, pretty much as soon as possible.
T1: Ji-Man Choi begins the night with a double and scores on an infield single. Tampa Bay 1-0....
B1: With one out, Xander Bogaerts (4-for-4) hits a two-run homer (#24), the first of his two dongs. Boston 2-1.
T2: Andrew Cashner (5.2-7-7-5-1, 110) loads the bases with no outs, on two walks and a single. Then he walks in a run. Two additional runs score on Sandy León's passed ball and Tommy Pham's double. Tampa Bay 4-2.
B5: Bogaerts hits a two-out solo shot (#25). Tampa Bay 4-3....
T6: Cashner again loads the bases (with one out this time, so that's a bit of progress). A force play at second makes it 5-3. Darwinzon Hernandez came in and threw two wild pitches. A run came across on one of them and Pham hits another double. Tampa Bay 7-3.
B7: Mookie Betts homers (#19). Tampa Bay 7-4.For only the second time in Rays history, the team swept a series of three or more games at Fenway Park; Tampa Bay swept four games in Boston on April 16-19, 2010 (3-1 (12), 6-5, 7-1, 8-2).
T8: Mike Zunino leads off the inning with a home run. Tampa Bay 8-4.
The Rays are also the first opposing team in 53 years to win eight games at Fenway Park, matching the 1966 Orioles. In going 8-1 in Boston, Tampa Bay outscored the Red Sox 51-26.
