Brock Holt (current Athletic, and former Red Sox, jack-of-all-trades) made his third career appearance on the mound yesterday, in the eighth inning with his team up by nine runs. His first offering was clocked at 31.1 mph, a "rainbow that registered on pitch-tracking as a 'slider' only because Statcast doesn't have a reading for 'crosstown bus at rush hour'".
It's the slowest pitch to be a called strike in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008), more than 10 mph slower than the 41.3 mph pitch by Willians Astudillo on June 4, 2021.
