In Theo We Trust (Again!)

Just pretend the last 85 days never happened.

Theo Epstein has returned to his old job -- executive vice president and general manager -- with a contract similar to the one he left on the table back in October. Jed Hoyer is now the assistant general manager and Ben Cherington is vice president for player personnel.

The full statements from John Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino, Hoyer and Cherington can be found here.

The Coco Crisp trade has hit a snag since a Philadelphia radio station reported that Guillermo Mota had failed his physical. Mota's agent denied the report, though he did say that Cleveland had issues with the pitcher's right shoulder. As far as replacing Mota in the deal, Boston may end up parting with Manny Delcarmen.

  1. Yawn . . .

I have been watching Yahoo news all morning for the latest on Coco (Hey Sean, take a chill pill - Coco will work out). Moto got a bad Roto! Hmmmm ....
Send Arroyo, he can relieve too - remember?

With so many new players lets get to Ft. Mers witha full slate and get to know one another. We can trade for Marte next year! We gotta win this year.

Oy yeah, Hi Theo - how was th evacation in Brazil?

    Later .......

  2. So I hear Manny D (MDC) as a trade possibility and I hear Matt Clement as a trade possibility. I also hear that the "Mota failed his physical thing is bs" but that's sources-not-the-Indians talking. Of the two alternate trade rumors, I favor the Clement option HIGHLY. A change of scenery did not help the bearded wonder last year - his numbers fell off mid-season, three weeks BEFORE he got hit in the head. MDC may not be a proven commodity yet, but he's got a lot more potential - and the Sox need bullpen help more than they need more starters. As for Arroyo, he's untradable - he publically sacrificed a portion of his paycheck to stay with Boston. Trading him now would make it impossible for the Sox to negotiate with any player and maintain the appearance of good faith.

  3. OK, ok, I admit in my hurry to get to the season I want to nail down the CF and lead-off issue. Perhaps in my haste the Arroyo comment was too outlandish. But, I do think one can trade an "up and comer" and then go get him back should it then be the right move. Banking players makes little sense to me; especially in this age of Free Agents. We were lucky with VTek and Arroyo is a throw back to ten years before Curt Flood.

Clement is as far as I am concerned - expendable. I believe he has arm strength problems with each passing game - year after year.

Still want Coco - after all he too is younger than Johnny Demon (have to raz him - he is a Yuckee now).
