Yet Another Contest - Big Papi Bio

When will David Ortiz collect his first walk-off hit of 2007?

Guess correctly and win a copy of "Big Papi: My Story of Big Dreams and Big Hits". The Red Sox schedule is here.

Rules:

1. The game must be played at Fenway Park -- don't choose any road games.

2. Post your guess in comments. There are no tiebreakers, so don't pick a game/date that has already been chosen.

3. Enter before the end of May. One game per person.

4. What else? To avoid problems with times of posts, you can't pick a game once it has started.

Thanks to St. Martin's Press for the book. I posted an excerpt back on March 27.

  1. The next game I go to is Thursday. I'll take Thursday. May 3.

  2. I'll take May 18th against Atlanta, if only becasue Wickman has already blown two saves...

    ReplyDelete
  3. Also, only one guess per person.

So, for example, if there is no Flo Walk-Off on May 3, Jere is out.

    ReplyDelete
  4. My son's birthday is on May 15, so I'll take that game (15-May, vs. Detroit) on his behalf.

    ReplyDelete
  5. May 11 against the O's. (possibly a Lester start?)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yanks make the comeback (that we all know they will), and are 1/2 a game back on 9/30. Santana comes to town and pitches a complete game 2-hitter vs the Sox. It's 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth and Papi comes to the plate. On an 0-2 count, he lines a shot into the LF corner for an inside-the-park HR.*

I'm sure Vegas would give the last game of the season the longest odds, but I'll take it anyway...

Give me 9/30 vs. the Twins!

(* For the record, I'll take a plain-ole Ortiz bomb into the camera well in CF or any other dinger...not just the highly unlikely/just-short-of-impossible inside-the-park trip around the bases.)

  7. Papi does it soon .... I'll take 5/1

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'll go with the long odds. It's not going to happen this season. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Shit (cuz I think it's probably short odds). June 1 vs. Yanks.

    ReplyDelete
  10. May 17th against Detroit. Mark your calendars, because it's going to be a good game.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'll throw my hat into the ring - June 14th vs. the Rockies.

    ReplyDelete
  12. For Manny's birthday ... and mine:

    May 30th against Cleveland!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'll guess May 19th against the Braves

  15. Just curious, what's the reasoning behind not allowing woti's "no walkoffs in '07" prediction? Seems legit to me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. May 20th against the Braves. The Braves are lookin' good this season...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Note: The Red Sox have had 0 at bats in walkoff situations this season.

Opponents have also never been up with a chance to beat us with a walkoff hit, though they are 0 for 8 in opportunities to tie the game in the ninth at home. (Papelbon retired all 8.)

  18. July 4 versus the D-Rays, because nothing says "Canadian Red Sox Blog Contest" like an Independence Day walk-off...

    ReplyDelete
  19. may 14th vs. detroit. dice-k start?
final score: 6-4. papi homers with 2 out, 1 on in the 9th ;D

    ReplyDelete
  20. Somebody's gotta take Canada Day, July 1st!

    ReplyDelete
  21. 0 seems like a cop-out, though i suppose it is a guess of sorts. on the odd chance there is no walkoff, i'll figure out something else.

    ***

right now, every home game in may is spoken for except the 2nd and 13th.

only 11 home games in june - 5 are taken.

    Hi,

I wanted to draw your attention to this important petition that I
    recently signed:

    "SOXLESS NATION"
    http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/SOXLESSNATION?e

I really think this is an important cause, and I'd like to encourage
you to add your signature, too. It's free and takes less than a minute of
    your time.

    Thanks!
    ---------------------------------------------

Once again, thanks for signing the petition!
    Sincerely,

    8/17 afternoon game.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hopefully it won't take this long, but how about 9/26.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I decided to pick the smallest remaining date that was a prime number, and it turned out to be 9/11.

    ReplyDelete
  51. May I please have September 3? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Can I have 29 Sept please?

I hope Santana pitches, I have tickets.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I would like to thank the Academy, my wife, my agent and the fact that nobody picked this date in the first go round.

While it is nice to win, for both the Sox and myself, I'll gladly donate the prize to tim, Pokerwolf or Dirty Water if he hits one this weekend.
