Jays Hope To Open Dome Against Wakefield

Knowing that Tim Wakefield's knuckleball is often more effective in dome, the Blue Jays are hoping they will be able to play tonight's game with the dome open. There is rain in the forecast, however.

Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi:
We'd be stupid not to open it. ... You can call it gamesmanship or whatever but if it works to the advantage of us and we can do it, we'll do it. Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to rain.
At 12:50 PM, it's warm and quite sunny a few miles west of Toronto.

Jon Lester threw for the second straight day on Wednesday, tossing from 90 feet for 12 minutes, and will likely throw again on Friday in Boston. Francona: "He's chomping at the bit. And he probably is fine, but better safe than sorry."

  1. one of the few times i will pray for rain *for* a baseball game. Wakey's games are the only time it doesn't drive me insane to be playing in a dome.

  2. Why Wakefield, apart from being a beautiful human being, didn't try to sign with Toronto, Houston, Seattle, or Tampa Bay (well, not Tampa Bay) to play in a dome for his career I'll never know. He probably would've sliced .5 runs off of his ERA.

'course he probably wouldn't have a ring. But still, major difference.
