The Red Sox were never in this game. Drew's single in the fifth inning was Boston's first hit. Eric Hinske's pinch-hit double in the eighth was the second. David Murphy scored the lone Boston run, tripling with two outs in the top of the ninth and scoring on Mike Lowell's double.
For the Pads, Khalil Greene hit two home runs and singled, Josh Bard doubled, homered and drove in three runs -- Bard and Greene going back-to-back in the sixth finished Wakefield's night -- and Mike Cameron singled, doubled and scored twice.

He threw 1 2/3 innings last night, so he wasn't coming out until such time as the mfys took the lead.
ReplyDeleteIt was hilarious when Waldman came back to the booth after talking to TCM, who proclaimed that he wanted someone to fetch him his spikes so he could pitch if asked. She and Sterling both agreed that there was nothing surprising about that; that of course TCM would be willing to do such a thing. I guess he's a team player all of a sudden.
Unfortunately I had to follow the last inning and a half on my computer, so I didn't get to hear their crestfallen voices after SF's walkoff single.

I was at the Giants-Yanks game. We snuck down to the seats on the 1B line during the 12th. We when sat down, there was Roger, not thirty feet away, throwing. Of course, nothing but "Shouldn't he be home with his family?" from the fans.

I had very little hope for the Giants; it was a great win. Maybe when Barry moves on I'll be able to root for them a bit more enthusiastically.
About 30 Sox Nationals got the boot from this game. The SD fans and security are so not used to real fans. The SD guy threw the first punch in the fight that I witnessed. He was dancing around screaming in the walkway and when the Sox guy who got kicked for being loud came out the Padre Ass sucker punched him. The cops got into it and the Padre left in bracelets. I did call the guy a F*G on his way out. I say this only to include my contribution to the whole thing not to piss any people off on here. One thing though that was fucking awesome was how the whole downtown area where the Padres park is was all Redsox fans. The wife and I sat out on the patio of a pub called the "Padres Pub" with about 30 other uniformed Redsox nationals. Also, we bumped into Coco in the Adidas store with his family. We left him alone. I gave a nod and a whats up.
