G76: Mariners 8, Red Sox 7

Red Sox - 101 022 010 - 7 14 1
Mariners - 310 022 00x - 8 12 1
And so to bed.

***

Kason Gabbard (3.60 (5 IP), 124 ERA+) / Felix Hernandez (4.00, 105 ERA+)

In Pawtucket, Gabbard was 7-2, 3.14 in 14 starts.

MLB.com:
Gabbard was called up for a start on May 20 against the Braves and he earned the win, giving up six hits and two runs over five innings. Safeco Field was where Gabbard made his Major League debut on July 22, 2006. In that one, Gabbard took the loss, but pitched well, giving up two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.

Hernandez got back on the right track in his last outing, shutting out the Pirates in eight innings of work while striking out nine. The last time he faced the Red Sox he recorded the ninth one-hitter in Mariners history on April 11 at Boston.

  2. Drew and Lowell better both play today they have a good history with this guy.

  3. The MLB preview thought Cora would start.

  4. Before bed last night I got down on my knees and prayed as hard as I could that Lord Francona would slap Loogey on his cheek and tell him to get out of the clubhouse because he is a disgrace.

When I woke up this morning I felt bad for wishing such mean things for our friend Wholio. I would like to change my prayer to just ask that he spends a couple weeks in Pawtucket to get a little fear in him.

I have watched about his last 20 AB's and I found one thing tht baffled me: he doesnt swing the bat. And then I looked at the hit chart and saw that all of his fly outs are to the right side. My conclusion was that he is hesitating too much. I figure we scare him a bit to snap him out of this slump and maybe he will start pulling fastballs for hits, which incidently is where most of his hits go. No hitting coach can swing a bat for the guy but maybe a shock collar? SWING THE DAMN BAT ASSHOLE!!! I now feel better.

  5. I'd rather he make an out after taking five other pitches than make an out after taking only one. And I'm not sure any of the Sox hitting coaches knows how to encourage swinging (with some good reason).

    ReplyDelete
  6. Indeed. I've noticed the exact opposite with Coco lately. He seems to be so much more agressive lately. Swinging with purpose and conviction. Like he hates the ball... hates the ball and everything it stands for!

I think they both will play, but I think they are a combined 3 -13 against Felix with Lowell having 1 HR.

Actually they are 3 for 12 with the 1 hr and three k's.

As for Manny and Lugo sitting they are 2 for 13 with 4 k's combined.

Hinske and Cora are also terrible against Felix so not much upgrade from a history stand point. So, I figure Manny is just getting a night off against a tough pitcher while Cora is starting the platoon with Lugo.

  13. Bases loaded for Baltimore with one out.

    ReplyDelete
  14. O's have bases loaded, one out, against the Assman in the 9th.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sigh. Someone should tell Lowell it isn't the allstar break yet.

  21. Flipping steaks in New Rochelle.

Have more than two of Proctor's losses come on bases loaded walks?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Wasn't a save situation, I guess? Proctor: walk, single, pop bunt, walk, walk. He clearly didn't have it. There was an injury delay on Gameday - was he hurt?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Gabbard isn't filling me with confidence thus far.

  26. notice how tek gets praise for his work with pitchers when they do well, but he doesn't get shit when he can't get gabbard to throw a fucking strike.

we got our own captain intangibles.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They still yakkin' about 78 Redux??

No, they're yakking about "26 wins" and "86 years to win a World Series is pathetic" because they aren't used to being the underdog. It's highly amusing.

  28. this guys career just sputtered

    ReplyDelete
  29. thankfully - just pour it in and let them hit it. we got fielders.

43 pitches. 3-1 ain't bad. let him start the 2nd.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Maybe, but where are our hitters?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Time to give Timlin an appearance towards his 1000. This game is over.

  35. Fuck sakes. Just tuned into the game summary thus far before tuning into MLBTV - no offense or anything, but I don't really want to look at that many balls tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  36. oh I know what happened. He forgot to warm up.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That inning ended less worse than it could have.

  38. but I don't really want to look at that many balls tonight.

my advice? stay away from the personal ads.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Coco's getting to the point where I don't even mind having him lead off.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just because ol' Felix H. over there on craigslist (no no wait, thats too obvious...F. Hernandez...there that's better) popped a couple cialis' thats no need to hate on the messenger.

don't hate tha playa, hate tha game!

(sorry, my buddy burned me a random CD for my birthday and it featured all sorts of various rap/hip-hop including a couple songs about how Boston is awesome and now its got me in a hippity hoppity sort of mood)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Holy Mike Lowell, Batman! A 2-run triple!

    ReplyDelete
  57. wow a tie game even when we start a little leaguer

    ReplyDelete
  58. when they showed the clip of timlin and the broken bat i freaked out I thought Tito put him in.

    ReplyDelete
  59. From the SoSH thread: "I'm an enormously superstitious pussy who is absolutely convinced that if the team gets in a jam, their odds of getting out of it increase if I stop watching. God knows how many terrible TV shows I've sat through to try to avoid going back to the game until I think they might have gotten out of it."

I wonder what it's like to be persecuted by such demons.

    ReplyDelete
  60. one day we will have a CF that can throw. ... one day.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I guess MDC wants to give Papi a chance for a walk-off HR. Sheesh.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Check it out: Tek actually threw someone out stealing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hinske HR! Damn. I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I went outside and they came up a run to 4-2. How can they do good if we watch?

And i guess "Hey Blow" means something to the locals but to see a girl holding that sign twice now makes me sick inside.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Dear MFYs,

This is our bench. They win us games.

    xoxo,

    The Sox

    ReplyDelete
  66. It's time to abdicate the throne, Felix.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Lugo gets the credit for that Cora double. If he didnt suck so bad we wouldnt have seen that hit.

    ReplyDelete
  68. This bunting shit has to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  69. bunting shit

i know. man on second and no outs, no real threat of a dp. both teams scoring left and right, only the 6th. why throw away outs?

    "but it was productive!"

    ... fuck you it was.

    ReplyDelete
  70. At least we're tied again. No win for Felix.

    ReplyDelete
  71. If the first pitch doesn't hit him, try again, O'Fie.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Shit. This must be what it's like to be a MFY fan.

    ReplyDelete
  73. this is why, after a long HR and a hard double, you don't fucking BUNT and give the other team free outs.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Shit. This must be what it's like to be a MFY fan.

    :>)

  75. Morrow: In 26.2 IP, he's allowed 22 hits, 27 walks and 26 strikeouts. !!!

Our Telfon captain whiffs on 3 pitches. Man can he look like poop at the plate.

  76. timlin up as lopez starts the 7th.

    lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Does Piniero have meningitis or something?

    ReplyDelete
  78. maybe he has a cold sore and tito thinks he's soft.

    ReplyDelete
  79. god i hate gump with an intensity that is sometimes quite scary.

    ReplyDelete
  80. here comes timlin to take a game that is well within reach and turn it into a rout for the other team.

    ReplyDelete
  81. timlin gets out of the jam -- thereby earning more higher-leverage innings in which to blow games.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Lugo's gotta run here, right?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Battle of the initials - J.J. vs. J.D.!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Wow - Lugo did something worthwhile. Now it's up to JD...

    ReplyDelete
  85. so lugo goes in as a pinch runner and waits until the 13th pitch to steal second?

    looks like jeemer coming in.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Maybe Drew could try hitting to the opposite field for once.

    ReplyDelete
  87. lowell
    tek
    hinske

due in the 9th, with manny on the bench.

    ReplyDelete
  88. If Tito has a pair and Lowell gets on, pinch hit Manny for Tek.

    ReplyDelete
  89. doubt we'll see manny tonite, just cause tito doesn't have a set.

    ReplyDelete
  90. If Tito has a pair and Lowell gets on, pinch hit Manny for Tek.

Do it even if Lowell makes an out.

He's way more likely to to PH for Hinske, though.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Lowell gets seriously fucked on that call.

    ReplyDelete
  92. fuckin' tek half-swinging at shit around his eyes. christ.
