Red Sox - 101 022 010 - 7 14 1And so to bed.
Mariners - 310 022 00x - 8 12 1
***
Kason Gabbard (3.60 (5 IP), 124 ERA+) / Felix Hernandez (4.00, 105 ERA+)
In Pawtucket, Gabbard was 7-2, 3.14 in 14 starts.
MLB.com:
Gabbard was called up for a start on May 20 against the Braves and he earned the win, giving up six hits and two runs over five innings. Safeco Field was where Gabbard made his Major League debut on July 22, 2006. In that one, Gabbard took the loss, but pitched well, giving up two earned runs over 5 1/3 innings.
Hernandez got back on the right track in his last outing, shutting out the Pirates in eight innings of work while striking out nine. The last time he faced the Red Sox he recorded the ninth one-hitter in Mariners history on April 11 at Boston.
oooh oooh is lugo starting? please tell me he is.
ReplyDeleteDrew and Lowell better both play today they have a good history with this guy.
ReplyDeleteThe MLB preview thought Cora would start.
ReplyDeleteBefore bed last night I got down on my knees and prayed as hard as I could that Lord Francona would slap Loogey on his cheek and tell him to get out of the clubhouse because he is a disgrace.
ReplyDeleteWhen I woke up this morning I felt bad for wishing such mean things for our friend Wholio. I would like to change my prayer to just ask that he spends a couple weeks in Pawtucket to get a little fear in him.
I have watched about his last 20 AB's and I found one thing tht baffled me: he doesnt swing the bat. And then I looked at the hit chart and saw that all of his fly outs are to the right side. My conclusion was that he is hesitating too much. I figure we scare him a bit to snap him out of this slump and maybe he will start pulling fastballs for hits, which incidently is where most of his hits go. No hitting coach can swing a bat for the guy but maybe a shock collar? SWING THE DAMN BAT ASSHOLE!!! I now feel better.
I'd rather he make an out after taking five other pitches than make an out after taking only one. And I'm not sure any of the Sox hitting coaches knows how to encourage swinging (with some good reason).
ReplyDeleteIndeed. I've noticed the exact opposite with Coco lately. He seems to be so much more agressive lately. Swinging with purpose and conviction. Like he hates the ball... hates the ball and everything it stands for!

Actually they are 3 for 12 with the 1 hr and three k's.
As for Manny and Lugo sitting they are 2 for 13 with 4 k's combined.
Hinske and Cora are also terrible against Felix so not much upgrade from a history stand point. So, I figure Manny is just getting a night off against a tough pitcher while Cora is starting the platoon with Lugo.
Anyone see this from Eric Wilbur?

With a tied game on the line, there's no pitcher I'd rather the MFYs have in than Proctor.
ReplyDeleteproblems with MLBTV?
ReplyDeletethere goes the no-hitter.
ReplyDeleteThere goes the shutout.
ReplyDeleteBases loaded for Baltimore with one out.
ReplyDeleteO's have bases loaded, one out, against the Assman in the 9th.
ReplyDeleteSigh. Someone should tell Lowell it isn't the allstar break yet.

proctor bases loaded walk.
ReplyDeletewhere was fruitbat?
MFY: 36-38, now 11.5 GB
ReplyDeleteThey still yakkin' about 78 Redux??
Flipping steaks in New Rochelle.
ReplyDeleteHave more than two of Proctor's losses come on bases loaded walks?
Wasn't a save situation, I guess? Proctor: walk, single, pop bunt, walk, walk. He clearly didn't have it. There was an injury delay on Gameday - was he hurt?
ReplyDeleteGabbard isn't filling me with confidence thus far.
ReplyDeletethe best part of tonights game is technical difficulties please close all browsers and try again soon.
ReplyDeleteoh thats nice

ReplyDeletenotice how tek gets praise for his work with pitchers when they do well, but he doesn't get shit when he can't get gabbard to throw a fucking strike.
ReplyDeletewe got our own captain intangibles.
Where's Lester?
ReplyDeleteThey still yakkin' about 78 Redux??
ReplyDeleteNo, they're yakking about "26 wins" and "86 years to win a World Series is pathetic" because they aren't used to being the underdog. It's highly amusing.
this guys career just sputtered
ReplyDeleteOh thank goodness.
ReplyDeletethankfully - just pour it in and let them hit it. we got fielders.
ReplyDelete43 pitches. 3-1 ain't bad. let him start the 2nd.
Maybe, but where are our hitters?
ReplyDeleteTime to give Timlin an appearance towards his 1000. This game is over.

ReplyDeleteoh he has a future.
ReplyDeletehopefully he can pitch them to hit for the cycle.
Fuck sakes. Just tuned into the game summary thus far before tuning into MLBTV - no offense or anything, but I don't really want to look at that many balls tonight.
ReplyDeleteoh I know what happened. He forgot to warm up.
ReplyDeleteThat inning ended less worse than it could have.
ReplyDeletebut I don't really want to look at that many balls tonight.
ReplyDeletemy advice? stay away from the personal ads.
Coco's getting to the point where I don't even mind having him lead off.
ReplyDeleteJust because ol' Felix H. over there on craigslist (no no wait, thats too obvious...F. Hernandez...there that's better) popped a couple cialis' thats no need to hate on the messenger.
ReplyDeletedon't hate tha playa, hate tha game!
(sorry, my buddy burned me a random CD for my birthday and it featured all sorts of various rap/hip-hop including a couple songs about how Boston is awesome and now its got me in a hippity hoppity sort of mood)

ReplyDeleteManny has a better ring to it, anyway.
ReplyDeleteMDC - Bad Ass.
ReplyDeleteWe will win this game.
my daughter's name is now MDC
ReplyDeleteDear White Flag,
ReplyDeleteTHAT is how a relief pitcher pitches!
MDC! Woo!
PAPI!
ReplyDeleteMIKE!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletetriple -- well played out there.

Mikey!
ReplyDeletewhere's your fucking fist pump now, felix?
ReplyDeleteHoly Mike Lowell, Batman! A 2-run triple!
ReplyDeletedoubles goes for 3
ReplyDeleteAw, Tek!
ReplyDeletewow a tie game even when we start a little leaguer
ReplyDeletewhen they showed the clip of timlin and the broken bat i freaked out I thought Tito put him in.
ReplyDeleteFrom the SoSH thread: "I'm an enormously superstitious pussy who is absolutely convinced that if the team gets in a jam, their odds of getting out of it increase if I stop watching. God knows how many terrible TV shows I've sat through to try to avoid going back to the game until I think they might have gotten out of it."
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it's like to be persecuted by such demons.
one day we will have a CF that can throw. ... one day.
ReplyDeleteI guess MDC wants to give Papi a chance for a walk-off HR. Sheesh.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Capt. Intangibles!
ReplyDeleteCheck it out: Tek actually threw someone out stealing.
ReplyDeleteHinske HR! Damn. I like that.
ReplyDeleteI went outside and they came up a run to 4-2. How can they do good if we watch?
ReplyDeleteAnd i guess "Hey Blow" means something to the locals but to see a girl holding that sign twice now makes me sick inside.
Oh shit the Jay hits one
ReplyDeleteHinske 1, Fist Twirl 0
ReplyDeleteDear MFYs,
ReplyDeleteThis is our bench. They win us games.
xoxo,
The Sox
It's time to abdicate the throne, Felix.
ReplyDeleteLugo gets the credit for that Cora double. If he didnt suck so bad we wouldnt have seen that hit.
ReplyDeleteThis bunting shit has to stop.
ReplyDeletebunting shit
ReplyDeletei know. man on second and no outs, no real threat of a dp. both teams scoring left and right, only the 6th. why throw away outs?
"but it was productive!"
... fuck you it was.
TIZZLE!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAt least we're tied again. No win for Felix.
ReplyDeleteIf the first pitch doesn't hit him, try again, O'Fie.
ReplyDeleteShit. This must be what it's like to be a MFY fan.
ReplyDeletethis is why, after a long HR and a hard double, you don't fucking BUNT and give the other team free outs.
ReplyDeleteShit. This must be what it's like to be a MFY fan.
ReplyDelete:>)
Morrow: In 26.2 IP, he's allowed 22 hits, 27 walks and 26 strikeouts. !!!
ReplyDeleteOur Telfon captain whiffs on 3 pitches. Man can he look like poop at the plate.
Can Hinske play SS?
ReplyDeletetimlin up as lopez starts the 7th.
ReplyDeletelovely.
Does Piniero have meningitis or something?
ReplyDeletemaybe he has a cold sore and tito thinks he's soft.
ReplyDelete*Pineiro
ReplyDeletegod i hate gump with an intensity that is sometimes quite scary.
ReplyDeletehere comes timlin to take a game that is well within reach and turn it into a rout for the other team.
ReplyDeletetimlin gets out of the jam -- thereby earning more higher-leverage innings in which to blow games.
ReplyDeleteGood start. C'mon Papi.
ReplyDeleteJJ Pootz? No. Putz.
ReplyDeleteLugo's gotta run here, right?
ReplyDeleteBattle of the initials - J.J. vs. J.D.!
ReplyDeleteWow - Lugo did something worthwhile. Now it's up to JD...
ReplyDeleteso lugo goes in as a pinch runner and waits until the 13th pitch to steal second?
ReplyDeletelooks like jeemer coming in.
JJ wins. Dang it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Drew could try hitting to the opposite field for once.
ReplyDeletelowell
ReplyDeletetek
hinske
due in the 9th, with manny on the bench.
If Tito has a pair and Lowell gets on, pinch hit Manny for Tek.
ReplyDeletedoubt we'll see manny tonite, just cause tito doesn't have a set.
ReplyDeleteIf Tito has a pair and Lowell gets on, pinch hit Manny for Tek.
ReplyDeleteDo it even if Lowell makes an out.
He's way more likely to to PH for Hinske, though.
Lowell gets seriously fucked on that call.
ReplyDeletefuckin' tek half-swinging at shit around his eyes. christ.
ReplyDelete...
let's go manny!
:(
ReplyDeleteboo-erns...i stayed up for this :-(
ReplyDeletetomorrow's better kick some ass!
