G86: Tigers 3, Red Sox 2 (13)

Kason Gabbard (5.79, 78 ERA+) / Jeremy Bonderman (3.58, 123 ERA+)

159 comments:

  1. Jayson Stark is doing his half-season awards over at ESPN.com -- Cy Young, MVP and RoY for each league and the corresponding dud (Least Vauable Player).

All right, so Lugo at the latter. But he gives Okaji the Rookie of the Year for the AL and cites a couple of stats I find amazing:

[An] opponent slugging percentage is under .200 (.191). We don't know if he can keep this up. But Okajima is on pace to have an ERA under 1.00 and allow just four extra-base hits all season. We can't find any reliever in history who has ever done that.

.191 slugging against? Four extra-base hits all year?

  2. Cleveland beats the Blue Jays 9-4, dropping the Tigers .5 GB (and the Jays 11.5 GB).

MFY and LAA 1-1 in the 4th.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Did Stark mention Kendall in his LVP?

    Kendall: .225/.263/.280, OPS+ 46
    JLugo: .190/.263/.279, OPS+ 43

Lucky for Kendall, he's gone 10-for-31 (.323/.364/.484) in his last 9 games.

  5. Kendall got a runner-up type mention for the LVP.

File under Very Interesting: Torre puts Rivera in to pitch the ninth of a tie game (still 1-1). Interesting because of all the crap he took for not putting him in about a week back in a similar situation.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The TCM was at only 98 pitches after 8.

1-1 in the bottom of the 12th now.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Got the FSN jokes again.

Part of Bonderman's scouting report: "Benfitting from Support"

... as opposed to all the other pitchers who do not benefit from generous run support.

    ReplyDelete
  8. NESN on EI tonight. At least if the Tigers get a lead, I won't have to hear the victory dance. A tradeoff for Remy's constant in-game ads.

    ReplyDelete
  9. FLO!

Bonderman's second scouting report was "Big Papi This!"

    Ortiz was 2-for-19 against Bonderman. ... Now he's 3-for-20, with a HR.

    YAH!

  10. Damn it. Work calls. Gotta transcribe a tape.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nice swing there, Cap'n.

    Gabba Gabba Hey!

    ReplyDelete
  12. "Damn it. Work calls. Gotta transcribe a tape."

Stupid work. Unemployment is so much more fun.

    Doesn't pay very well, tho...

  13. Angels take 2-1 lead over Yankees in 13th inning on umpteenth throw-away by Cairo. Yankees have committed 5 errors.

  14. Jimmy Fund teenagers on their annual road trip tonight. Really nice to see something done for the older kids - a very common age to have cancer (and to lose a limb), and they get little attention.

  15. Why are Don and Jerry acting like never walking (Pudge) is a good thing?

  16. Why are Don and Jerry acting like never walking (Pudge) is a good thing?

They are stupid -- and ignorant of the more progressive trends in baseball thought for the last, ohh, let's say 120 years.

Doubly stupid since the Red Sox place such importance getting on base.

It is only the most important job of any batter. No real reason why they should pick up on that arcane slice of the game. It's only their job.

    ReplyDelete
  17. To be fair, they didn't actually *say* it was a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Ugh, I just heard Jerry's worst promo reading *ever*.

But it reminded me... Would the person who is taping the Don & Remy special for us also leave the DVR on for the Matzusaka show afterwards? I wonder if he's reading this thread.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Jeter grounded into a game-ending force play with the tying run on third in the bottom of the 13th.

    Tangible!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I made a new post for CaKeY.

I hope I got the capital letters correct.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Looks like K-Gab is doing well.

    ReplyDelete
  22. No worries, here we go, Papi...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tape 1/2 done.

    Let's not waste this, Lowell.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Cakey just appeared in another thread to rag on me. So maybe he will see your request.

    Now come on, Mike...

    ReplyDelete
  25. Einstein elevates to rob Sheff.

    Drink!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Remind me why everyone loves Varitek so much?

    Captain Teflon

    ReplyDelete
  27. Where was Maggs running on that Dusty Double?

    Hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  28. i guess it's too late for him to hit for the cycle - and now they're pinch running for him

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tigers coach at mound: "Ummm, don't give up a tater!"

    ReplyDelete
  30. i missed something - how did lugo get on?

    ReplyDelete
  31. A real Tekian AB for Drew. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  32. oh right. i even mentioned it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 86 curve dropped in, followed by fastballs at 95 and 97, then a 84 change -- Inge had no chance in that AB!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. 5.67? That's the Todd Jones I remember.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jeemer in the 9th too, I presume.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'd like to see the Todd Jones I remember.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That works. Coco on 3rd, 1 out for the Big Boys.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Serious dissing of Manny going on tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  39. damn

mbm is staring to look like gdp

    ReplyDelete
  40. christ on a pogostick. grrr...

    ReplyDelete
  41. "Serious dissing of Manny going on tonight."

    Where? The Fox Dee-troit Cheerleaders?

    ReplyDelete
  42. christ on a pogostick? that's a funny image :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Dissing = the BBIs to Flo.

    Why is Timlin warming up?

In fact, why is Timlin still in uniform?

    ReplyDelete
  44. "Timlin is warming."

    Say it ain't so.

    Please say.

    ReplyDelete
  45. "Dissing = the BBIs to Flo."

Oh yes. But they were right.

    Oh fuckety.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tito must know Jeemer's getting out of this and we're scoring like 9 runs in the top of the 11th. Then Timlin will finish it out.

    Cool.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Granderson

    v LHP .152
    v RHP .323

    ReplyDelete
  48. JEEMER!

fuckin' a -- sweaty palms through that one.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Friggin , ALL STAR....now someone pick him up.........

    ReplyDelete
  50. 38 pitches for Jeemer today in 2.1 IP.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Is Tito really going to ignore the Bot and bring in White Flag?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Timlin - hard to figure that one.

OK, I'm sorry, Tek. You do hit once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah, but he swung at the old fastball up by his eyes for strike 2.

We talk about WMP maybe never learning to lay off a curve, but will Tek ever stop hacking at that high shit he can't reach?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Alright, Gumball, let's do this.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "will Tek ever stop hacking at that high shit he can't reach?"

    No.

    ReplyDelete
  56. God, it *is* Timlin. At least there's no one on base.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Timlin against their 3-4-5 guys: Sheffield, Ordonez and Gullen.

    This oughta be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lopez is up in the pen. I guess no Snuffer tonight at all.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Has Snuffer been up at all? I thought I saw him.

Maybe Tito is waiting until we get a lead, so the Bot can get a save.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think he was up at all tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Shit. Come on, one more out. Bear down, you neocon jerk.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Before this inning Timlin didn't even cross my mind as someone I'd have considered putting in. In fact I even thought of JC Romero first and he's not even around any more.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Maybe this will be the DFA incentive we've been waiting for.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Sheesh, that was scary.

Lopez will be in next. That will be scary, too.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Papelbon better be having open heart surgery right now. Or some kind of excuse like that.

    ...

    OMG whwew.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Nothing in MLB's Sox notebook about Bot.

    ReplyDelete

    C'mon now..........seriouslly

    ReplyDelete
  68. How did Cora get on? I had to take care of the pups.

    ReplyDelete
  69. "Papelbon better be having open heart surgery right now. Or some kind of excuse like that."

He can't be available every day. I'd rather lose a few games mid-season than burn him out. Wouldn't you?

    ReplyDelete
  70. "C'mon now..........seriouslly "

    No, huh?

    Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  71. A lot of faith in Lugo here........

    ReplyDelete
  72. Now, Manny. NOW. Be the Manny.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Tiz: HR, BB, 2B, BBI, BBI, BBI

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ugh..... there isn't a guy in the regular lineup Tito would pinch run for late in a game......but I thing he has done it to Peroia 3 or 4 times this year....Is he slower than everyone else

    ReplyDelete
  75. Cora single to center.

    Bot didn't pitch last night.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Lugo should go back to his old Little League team. Why do we have a player on our team that is hitting .190 halfway through the season?

    ReplyDelete
  77. 9casey: I don't get it either. I trust DP with the glove in late innings. This is a horrible reason -- but could Tito be doing it to make Lugo feel useful?

    ReplyDelete
  78. "Is he slower than everyone else"

No. I don't get it either.

    ReplyDelete
  79. "This is a horrible reason -- but could Tito be doing it to make Lugo feel useful? "

I wondered about that too. He just keeps playing him, waiting for him to come out of this endless slump...

    ReplyDelete
  80. redsock said... Tito be doing it to make Lugo feel helpful?

Shit let him get water and give massages after the game

    ReplyDelete
  81. Why didn't he let him in the 11th for hinske?

    ReplyDelete
  82. I love Youk, but why is a guy getting paid $70 million to take a seat with the bases loaded in the twelfth?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh good lord, Timlin's still in. WTF.

    WTF???

    ReplyDelete
  84. More Timlin?!!??

    "Bitch, are you for real?"

    ReplyDelete

Quality question........Tito the only one with that answer

    ReplyDelete
  86. God, can't we leave salaries out of this. Who the eff cares what they make.

Thats true and all but if Pedroia was making nine mil ayear he wouldn't get picth ran for

    ReplyDelete
  88. Can we get a golf clap for TIMMEH

    ReplyDelete
  89. Hey Lopez: Can we have an easy 1-2-3 inning, for shit's sake?

    ReplyDelete
  90. I wish I had more faith in Lopez.

    ReplyDelete
  91. OK, I'm sorry, Lopez. Now I've apologized to Varitek and Lopez tonight. Who's next?

    ReplyDelete

5 pitches 2 outs thats enough to start a reilgion

    ReplyDelete
  93. My scorecards hold 12 innings, so I get to go a new one for the first time this year. Fun!

    ...

(I don't expect you to care.)

    ReplyDelete
  94. "5 pitches 2 outs thats enough to start a reilgion "

    :-)

Since god is apparently unavailable tonight, we'll bow to Lopez.

    ReplyDelete
  95. "(I don't expect you to care.)"

Aw, I'm sure everyone cares. Especially right now, with no tension going on or anything. :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. "They elevate, and Varitek strikes out..."

    drink...

He was with someone but Tito pinch ran for him in the 8th

    ReplyDelete
  98. OH FUCK YOU Tek.

    god.

    where's belli?

    ReplyDelete
  99. AND THERE HE IS.

i hate tery right now. fucking gambling bastard.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Alright! Here comes The Snuffer!!!

    ReplyDelete
  101. Quitcher bitching. The Tigers haven't scored, and here's our Bot.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I guess Tito saved Snuffer so he could hit Sheffield.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yeah, I'll go with Timlin for 1.1 innings and 27 pitches, because I know I'll need Bot for the 13th.

He got real lucky tonight, but he's a bonehead.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Great! Lugo feels useful, Timlin feels useful, let's all go out for ice cream after the game.

GOD -- I thought we left that shit mentality with our previous rockheads in the dugout.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Is Sheffield wearing a new pair of Zips......5 po attempts

    I'm in

    ReplyDelete
  109. But when it works, it gives him the incentive to do it again.

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm in

    That's wasn't what I meant. :>/

    ReplyDelete
  111. "I'm in"

    :-D You're funny tonight.

    ***

You made up the useful bit. You didn't hear it from Tito.

    ReplyDelete
  112. "You made up the useful bit. "

    You being Redsock, not 9Casey.

    ReplyDelete
  113. While you're busy blaming the manager, does it occur to you that we've had about a million men on base and haven't scored since the 1st inning? Manny's groundouts must be Tito's fault too.

Thanks...That might have something to do with the fact I have been drinkin Newcastle's since 2

    ReplyDelete
  115. "That might have something to do with the fact I have been drinkin Newcastle's since 2"

    That should dull the pain.

    I'm going to bed. Pffft.

    ReplyDelete
  116. What is it with the Sox in extra innings? I should just start turning games off after 9.

    ReplyDelete
  117. on a friggin hit batsmen,,,,,g'night all.......

    ReplyDelete
  118. really was appropriate though putting the last out opportunity in coco's very capable diving hands.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Ellsbury would have caught it. Belt high!

    :>)

    ReplyDelete
  120. All together now:

"Who cares! We have an 11-game lead!"

    ReplyDelete
  121. Ellsbury would have caught it. Belt high!

    I miss him already. :)
