G92: Red Sox 4, Royals 0

IP H R ER BB K BF PIT
Gabbard 9 3 0 0 1 8 30 107
Solo home runs from Pedroia and Manny in the 4th and a two-run dinger from Ortiz in the 6th.

All wrapped up in 2:18 -- which also looks like a nice length for a Ramones song.

***

Brian Bannister (3.71, 127 ERA+) / Kason Gabbard (4.87, 92 ERA+)

Gabbard held the Tigers to three hits and two runs in 6.1 in his last outing. ... In his last start, RHP Bannister allowed four first-inning runs to Seattle, then shut out the Mariners for six innings.

Since May 12, the Royals are 28-26 (.519). The Red Sox have been only 2 games better over the same period -- 31-25 (.554).

  2. RE: Rookie starts - am working on starts since 2002 for pitchers making their first start vs Sox. Am about 1/3 of the way through assimilating the data and am surprised by the results so far.

60 starts the opposing starters are 18 and 25 averaging 5.24 innings per start.

  3. Lord, Kason can mow 'em down at times. Let's hope he lasts. And that the bats find a little fire. Jeez.

  4. Pedroia, Glaus, and Manny are all on my fantasy team, which has been starving for HRs lately. They go (in a sense) back to back to back.

    Heh.

  7. Was at the game- one of the best I've seen. The tizzy home run was a great moment, as was Kason's wrapup- okey was warming up in the 8th but we were hoping they'd let him enter the 9th with only 93 pitches...
    sure was special

  8. Awesome. Don't see those quick games too often, and a beauty at that.

One out of three ain't bad.

Was a fun game to be at tonight! Gabbo! Gabbo! Gabbo!

  10. Jere, I was hoping you were at the game. (I'm always hoping that.)

  11. Here's a new nickname from the guys at Fire Joe Morgan:

"KT: I include this harmless Q and A only to relate this anecdote: sometime FJM poster -- and the best man at the wedding between Ken and Mrs. Tremendous -- Mr. America's Sweetheart, once accompanied Ken to San Diego to see a Pads-Sox game. This is pre-Petco, many years ago. I think maybe like 2003? Anyway, you know who put on the most impressive show in BP that day? That's right: Doug Mirabelli. This led to America's Sweetheart dubbing Mirabelli: 'Batting Practice Hero Doug Mirabelli.'"

  13. How powerful is Kason Gabbard?

From SoSHer Lefty on the Mound:

Tonight is the first game at Fenway I've attended in a long time where "the wave" was not even attempted. I hate that thing! Kason Gabbard is the Wave-Stopper!

    That powerful!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hahaha, actually, It was attempted at a completely inconsequential point of the game, but it never got past one column. I laughingly pointed this out but I don't remember which inning.

It was such a great game.

  15. PS:
probably the best thing about the night was kason's changeup. In the dirt, 80 mph (6-7 off the fb...), and making them look like FOOLS.

    ReplyDelete
  16. TOTALLY INCORRECT. Several wave attempts. Anyone with a seat that faced the bleachers saw them. At least ten. It was a very rare night where the wave did not round the first corner (section 3-5) and at least start going down the first base side. But there were plenty of noticeable attempts.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry, was referring to the first person, from SoSH, who said no wave attempts.

  18. Oh well. KG is a mere mortal.

The power of the wave and its concurrent stupidity is perhaps matched only by the strength of the gods.
