Vote for Coma Guy

Vote: Steve Manganello for president of Red Sox Nation.

Despite my personal feelings about this election, it's happening and Steve deserves it more than anyone. He was in a coma -- and missed the entire 2004 postseason.

Can you imagine? You follow the Red Sox for decades (including the crushing pain of 2003), you get hit by a car as the 2004 ALDS against the Angels begins, you are unconscious for weeks, and when you come out of it, you are told that what you'd hoped your whole life to see, actually happened while you were out.

Someone is gonna win this thing. It should be Steve.

  1. What if we think the whole idea is stupid? Nothing against Coma Guy, but why vote for anybody?

  2. Then don't. Red Sox nation's a promo thing that the Red Sox as a club are trying to do to get more casual fans involved in the game. If you don't buy into it, don't bother. Same as with everything else in life.

  3. I gotta agree with L on this. We all became Sox fans without this unnecessary fan club. I've ignored it over the past few years since I was told I need to pay money to be a fan and get a stupid fan club card to prove my fan-ness. Now we need a president of this thing? Sorry. I don't give a shit who wins this race.

Unless you want to vote "Jeff from PA" as president. I hear that guy is pretty cool.

  4. Everyone knows I think this RSN Prez thing is moronic.

However, it is happening and this guy deserves it more than anyone. He was in a fucking coma for the 2004 postseason. He missed the whole thing!!!

  5. You make a good point about ComaGuy. But here's my issue - if I vote for this thing, it will just give the marketing dept one more reason to say, "see, this RSN thing is really working! Look at all the people voting. Let's do even more of this stuff next year."

If no one voted and if no one bought the memberships, this would go away. Or at least that's my hope.

  7. Unfortunately, the people like us who think this is dumb is a pretty small group compared to the entire pool of RS fans.

Well of course. I posted the comment so others might discuss.

    That's the good point.

Coma Guy seems as good a person to win the stupid contest as any. But even better, the fewer people who participate, the better.

In fact, it would be best to not vote, but to email Red Sox management and voice your disapproval of the whole thing.

  9. A good rule of thumb that applies to most things in life: if you disapprove of something, don't participate, and tell them (whoever they are) why.

  10. Eh. The way I figure it, I'm not going to pay for RSN, so all my vote does is use up their bandwidth. And since I figure they're giving out prizes, why not let Coma Guy get them?
