Feat of Clay

MLB.com has a page dedicated to Clay Buchholz's no-hitter (including audio of Buchholz's post-game press conference). Click on any of the numbers in the linescore here for video of that half-inning.

Here's the 9th inning from Gameday:

  2. Remember Tito's comment on August 17 before Buchholz's debut?

"If he throws a no-hitter, I may send him back [to Pawtucket] with a present. But he's going back."

  3. What a night. I feel like now we're going to float through September untouched.

Of course I know it doesn't work that way. It's just such a great feeling this morning.

  4. Just after the second strike to Markakis, I had my radio on at full volume with the TV on mute. The cheers of the fans, anticipating that third strike, was like nothing else I'd heard before. I had this strange feeling of euphoria, as the TV zoomed in on Buchholz before he threw his next pitch, with the crowd noise filling the room. I knew it wasn't even close to how it must have sounded to him.

This morning, I play back the tape I recorded. :)

  5. I was sorry not to be on the thread sharing this with you all. Instead, I was down at The Bar. With the sound off (Cal-Tenn, anyone? puke), a couple of the regulars and an out-of-towner with a RS t-shirt weren't really aware the no-hitter was brewing. I found myself wondering if he wasn't going to be lifted in the fifth. I couldn't believe it was only three walks he'd given up; maybe I was fretting over them and the hit batsman but it seemed like more. But he just seemed to get better and better as the game went.

    Fun day.
