Red Sox Open 2008 In Japan

The defending World Series champion Red Sox will begin the 2008 regular season with two games against the Oakland A's in Tokyo on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 25-26.

The regular season will continue, after five days off, on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1-2 with two games in Oakland. The A's will be the home team for all four games.

The Sox and A's will also play two exhibition games -- on March 23-24 -- against Japanese teams.

Also: Yook with a clean chin. "I'll start it up again, because a lot of people seem to like it."

  1. It would be so great if they'd play in the relatively grotty but organic Jingu-mae Stadium where the Yakult Swallows play. But doubtlessly it will be in the cavernous, air-conditioned weirdness of the "Big Egg", the Tokyo Dome. Worst place I've ever seen a baseball game.

  2. All the SoSHers in Japan say it'll be at the Big Egg.

No times have been announced, but if the two games are at 8 PM Tokyo, that'll be 6 AM in Boston/Toronto. Rise and shine, gamethreaders!!

The Kingdome was the worst for us. Ugh.

I was about to say that. I've heard horrible things about The Big Egg, too.

Sounds great to me! Put on a pot of coffee and start your day with the Red Sox. What could be better?

  4. I'd love to see the Sox in the Land of the Rising Sun. I wanna see how crazy they get for Oki and Dice-K (provided he's starting on one of the set dates).

Youk clean shaven huh? I've seen it before, but that underbite or lip-in or whatever he's got going on screams for the beard to return, which according to Sweaty it will thank God.

  5. Fortunately, the Bar opens at 6am.

Unfortunately, these games are Tuesday & Wednesday.

Fortunately, as the season opener, a case could be made.

Unfortunately, 6am EST is 3am PST. That about shitcans it for me. Unless it's at another time.

  8. The only good thing about this is the mental image of Manny in Tokyo. Manny visiting the Hello Kitty store. Manny fighting Mothra. Manny and a posse of harajuku girls. This may be a beautiful moment for several cultures.
